A massive coalition of U.S. Christian churches attended by 40 million people wants Brett Kavanaugh to withdraw his Supreme Court nomination.
The National Council of Churches says the conservative jurist has "disqualified himself." The group says in a statement that at last week's dramatic Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, he showed "extreme partisan bias," demonstrating he lacks the temperament to join the high court.
The group says Kavanaugh told "outright falsehoods." And it is criticizing his judicial record on voting rights, health care and other issues on which the group has taken liberal-leaning positions.
Kavanaugh is a Roman Catholic who has said religion is an important part of his life. The council does not represent Roman Catholics....

From a 2014 WaPo article:
Many congressmen had long ago realized that the liberal NCC was not speaking for churchgoers in their districts, and the NCCs political influence plummeted. Its constituent denominations and communions mainline, black Protestant, historic peace traditions, and Eastern Orthodox - faced their own institutional and financial challenges and, of course, unprecedented membership decline.
Fortunately many of them announce themselves by putting a homosexual banner or flag over their entrances.
Soviet-style “Christianity”
Great reason to stay in the running. This council are end times characters.
He who casts the first stone.
Extreme partisan bias hopefully means being willing to stand up for the Constitution rather than submit to the demands of those in love with Arbitrary government even though when government is up to its neck in dogooding the people are encouraged to honor it for its gifts rather than God.
Maybe people need to remember that what Scrooge had to learn was that humanity was his own business, and not to dully shuck it off onto professionals to take care of people. That our publicly funded agencies are more agreeable these days means nothing: if you trust government to take care of your neighbor the YOU aren’t doing it. Like Scrooge, if you only wait for those who pick your pocket (people miss that implicit in that charge was that he was in fact apparently supporting them, otherwise he’d have only cause to complain about them making a nuisance of themselves) to do good in your name, the professionals, humanity isn’t your business so much as humanity is other people’s business and you support them.
... of course Scrooge might go farther to observe that what he grudgingly gave up to the poor houses (as bad as they were they were the professionals of his day tasked with taking care of the destitute) etc he at least did have to give it willingly ... whereas people these days are being generous with their votes.
Indeed, I reason that charity being voluntary was no small part of why it was deemed to be insufficient, for only by MAKING people support these works do you insure no one gets to opt out. A casual examination of the benefits so given shows they are rarely “sufficient”, especially not to satisfy wants, and further that if people think they are receiving their due just because they’re here are they more likely to be thankful and feel blessed or think someone is holding out on them?
“Yet another reason for declining church attendance: they were taken over by Leftist ideologues”
absolutely ...
All to Government I surrender
All to it I’ll be made to give
I will ever love and trust it
For its benefits daily live
I surrender all
I surrender all
All to that which gives me handouts
I’ll be made to surrender all
As soon as I saw the headline, I knew it had to be the national council of churches.
The National Council of Churches no longer has the Soviet Union to apologize for so they need a new hobby
I needed to know. Many decades ago I learned that my life long church (Methodist) was associated at the national and international level with anything but Christian organizations. No one in the local churches had a clue.
I abandon the Methodist/communist hive long ago. Nothing religious about their activities outside of the pews.
“The National Council of Churches”

Didn’t need to read any further after that.
“Many decades ago I learned that my life long church (Methodist) was associated at the national and international level with anything but Christian organizations.”

Most, if not all, of the former mainline denominations have become nothing more than liberal PACs (with a little God sprinkled on top for appearance), it’s not just Methodists.
Though there are sub-groups within them that are trying to hang on and attempting to keep the faith. I think that’s a noble, but futile exercise.
I’m not sure if I could ever call myself a Christian if this is what 40 million Christians do when the Democraps sling accusations with no proof just to destroy a family to hurt the President that appointed him.
Snort... The NCC and WCC aren't Christian - so who cares what they say. The NCC and WCC are simply Left Wing politician/wolves who have infiltrated churches to espouse their political views. They care nothing about Salvation, because they care nothing about Christ.
Hey, NCC. The 1st Amendment guarantees that the Federal Government will not interfere in religion. The corollary is that churches should not involve themselves in politics.
I believe every one of the denominations that stikk haven’t pulled out of the NCC are the ones with steadily declining membership.
