Can a Pope Be Removed from Office?
Canon Law Made Easy ^ | January 31, 2013 | canonlawmadeeasy

Q: In a recent piece you explained the Pope can resign if he chooses. To me that raises another question: What would happen if a Pope became so mentally debilitated that he didn't know what he was doing?

When Pope Benedict dies, declare Francis and anti-pope, and elect a real pope.

Who declares him to be anti-pope?

Who has the authority?

AlaskaErik: That is internet speculation. No evidence to support that theory.

Same as with Hillary. But we all know she's a crook. Bennie being essentially forced out by the homosexual/pedophile mafia is the worst kept secret in Rome.

Again that all may be true, but lets take another perspective. Their are tons on the left in American politics who think Trump conspired with Putin and Russia to subvert the election. That is their theory. However, I have seen no such evidence to support such theory. Regardless of what I think, and I don’t think there was such collusion, there needs to be evidence.

Like I said, I think there is evidence of implicit duress put on Pope Benedict. Cardinals in the Curia resisted him on administrative and governance issues. Benedict probably wanted to move some out but my guess is these certain Cardinals like being the heads of various congregations in the Vatican with all the power and prestige it provides and did not want to get shipped back to a local diocese where you have to deal with lay Catholic men and women and govern a local Church.

So when Benedict sanctioned the likes of McCarrick and tried to clean up corruption and nepostism in Rome, there was an alliance between the lavender mafia and progressive Cardinals (not part of the lavender mafia), both of which never forgave Benedict when he was Cardinal Ratzinger for putting the term disordered attraction in the CCC regarding homosexual activity and his cracking down on liberation theology in the areas of sexuality (homosexual relations and feminism (women’s ordination, abortion politics).

A few Doctrinally conservative Cardinals like Sodano and Bertone probably aligned with that cohort above because they did not want to get removed from the Curia and sent back to a diocese or retire and go teach in a Theology school or live out rest of their lives in Monastery.

Benedict was getting old and when he put McCarrick in time out, the Curia disobeyed him. They saw that he was old and weak and broke his spirit, he resigns, and all of those align and get Francis. The only Curia Cardinals removed were the ones 100% loyal to Pope Benedict in all areas, Theology, Liturgy and yes and here is the Key Pastoral matters in terms of how things are stated. Benedict did not mince words, Francis is the wink wink nod nod type in areas of Liturgy and moral doctrine like homosexuality and abortion. He has not changed any doctrine, true, but his lack of preaching directly of those topics has sort of in practice made those teachings basically being something he will not preach on. On the other hand, we get homilies on economics, trade, migrants and illegal immigration, pollution, etc. Those are all important things, but not the issues the Church needs to focus on.

BS, the “laws” you are so carefully protecting are MAN made laws, NOT the Laws of God himself.

Man fails, and the Pope certainly has failed the flock.

You accused one poster of being a Protestant that would make Luther proud... My question to you is, who is your true Leader, the Pope, or God?

So who determines that? Who has the authority to determine that?

Please be more specific.

In post 73 you said this....

The Bishops not the Cardinals would convene an Imperfect Council to determine if the Pope has separated himself from the Church by the commission of obstinate heresy.

If it is determined that the Pope has separated himself from the Church the Imperfect Council would declare the Seat of Peter vacant and call for the election of a new pope.

But on more careful reading, it's bishops.

I thought bishops were under cardinals.

If the College of cardinals elects/selects the new pope, why aren't they the ones to dispose the old one?

It is worth reading the article. Lengthy, but it explains the concepts well.

To summarize

The Pope is without a superior on Earth in matters of the faith as long as he remains faithful to the Magisterium and the teachings of the Church.

If he strays in to personal heresy The Church; the Bishops are the fathers of their individual Churches and acting as one ( in Council) become superior to the Pope.

The Cardinals not having Churches are not the superior of the Pope.

A group of Bishops would call an Imperfect Council (excludes the Pope) to determine if the Pope has fallen in to personal heresy. If they do determine that the Pope is in personal heresy it is deemed that he has separated himself from the Church and that God himself has deposed the Pope. The Seat of Peter is vacant and that a new Pope must be elected.

I agree with everything you say with the exception of vigilantism.

Stop contributing by all means, but make sure that they know why. People leave parishes all the time.

Catholic Charities has been infested with Leftist for decades. Stop giving but make sure they know WHY. Insist that they break off ties to the Federal Government and stop cooperation with other charities that do not adhere to Catholic morality. It is a sin that Catholic charities cooperates with organization that support abortion.

If your kid is molested, let the Bishop know and also inform him that give the church’s history you yourself will be informing the civil LEO. But you are informing them as a curtesy.

If you know any wealthy Catholic donors suggest that they stop donating to your Diocese and let the Bishop know that they will not donate again until the Church cleans its house of homosexuals and pederasts.

Wealthy donors will get this done much quicker than we the foot soldiers of the Church.

You are welcome.

I really don’t think I was that clear.

When you have the time read the article. Lots of historical authoritative references that really give the basis for the reasoning.

You do not know me....but to be clear....I AM NOT a Roman Catholic by any stretch of the imagination nor am I defending anything of Roman Catholicism.

If you re-read the post you're replying to you will see I refer to the pope as "your" pope when addressing the other poster.

I only posted the article as it seems the first question the Roman Catholics must ask is can they even legally remove their pope....I haven't seen any Roman Catholic ask that question. They seem to be ready for a lynch mob though.

I follow Christ...and only Christ.

Per Roman Catholic Canon Law...isn't the pope given an opportunity to recant...and if so I think he gets to remain pope.

But it may be the first time its public recognition could change the face of it.

Look at all these implicated priests scurrying like the rats they are.

And bergoglio’s “I won’t say anything”.

Well, I say, RESIGN!

Probably the first action of the council would be to ask the Pope to recant his heresy or explain himself.

If he publicly confessed his errors and recanted he would remain Pope.

But the Pope has already repeatedly been asked to explain himself and has refused. The Pope has repeatedly been corrected by scholars, Cannons and Bishops to no avail.

I don’t think this Pope is going to recant his heresy.
