More than 500,000 tickets for the papal Mass in Dublin's Phoenix Park on Sunday were handed out, but apparently, only about 130,000 people showed up.
Over half a million tickets were snapped up for the event, but it is thought that just 130,000 people turned out.
Well wishers waved flags, cheered and reached out to touch the pontiff as he passed on his way to a stage, where he then conducted the religious service for the faithful.
During the mass, which was aired live on TV, the Pope asked for forgiveness for the clerical and institutional abuse in Ireland.
On Saturday, the Pope had an emotional meeting with eight survivors of abuse.
During the meeting the eight survivors spoke at length with the Pontiff about their experiences.
As mass took place, thousands of people descended on the city centre for the Stand 4 Truth protest.
When popes say public Masses, it is generally in front of hundreds of thousands of the faithful, rain or shine. This paltry turnout in Ireland, formerly one of the most Catholic countries in Europe, speaks volumes about how far the Church has fallen from grace in that country.

I think the Catholic Church has taken a hit all over the world. Yes, the abuse has been a real tragedy for the victims and for the faithful who trusted their leaders. But this Pope, who seems to have little respect for the traditions and the Canon Law of the Church, has done massive damage, too. I think back on Reagan, Thatcher and Pope John Paul II, and how they worked together to get rid of Communism. It seems that Francis was moved into the Pope position to help the worldwide progressive movement. Very sad.
I will not say "I told you so" because there is NOTHING satisfying about this.
13,000 suckers.
Catholicism is a joke and always has been.
Who died and made that douche bag hope anyway? It’s a rhetorical question folks. A ‘Pope’,.....God’s personnel liaison on planet earth.
Give a break.
Just some white guy in a funny hat.
I guess Pope Commie I isn’t drawing the crowds hid predecessors did.
There needs to start being protests during Bergoglio’s audiences in the Vatican.
As causal, non Catholic observer, I always thought the molestation issue was media overhype of rare events.
It appears that these events are much more frequent than I thought, and the Catholic hierarchy is more interested in protecting each other, than protecting the victims.
I would not consider becoming Catholic, and I would not take the chance of allowing my child to be alone with a priest. The Catholic Church may not survive this, and that’s a shame.
Ironically Ireland is the country that produced one-half of Bergoglio’s hero, Che Guevara.
The Church has been through much worse.
When do we hear the mass that will follow this bergoglio imposter’s resignation?
It didn’t help matters that there were lots of rules and prohibitions about what could be taken into the stadium where The Pope spoke. There was a long walk from the parking area into the speaker area. There had been four or five days of rain, so the ground was loose and muddy. Not very practical for the elderly or the fragile ambulator.
If you had a fold out chair, you had to carry it with you, no parking too close. No baby buggies allowed inside (they called these Prams). It also didn’t help matters that The Pope has for once been rather quiet about this latest wave of sex scandals in the Catholic Church.
“The Church has been through much worse.”
Perhaps, but considering what was done and the current toxic social climate, it’s a potent one-two punch. For me, what was done, and the reaction by the hierarchy is horrific. Hard to draw new members with that going on.
RE: there was an anti-Francis group that got several hundred thousand of the tickets and purposely hoarded them, with the intention of not showing up.
Must be a very well-funded group...
I was in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1979 when John Paul II visited. A million people showed up.
Hey, Mr. Pope. You had better come clean on all this because it is really starting to taint your church.
Personally, I have been involved with SNAP (survivors) and I dont hold it against the Catholic religion because there have been kids raped by Protestant ministers and rabbis (and no doubt imams though I dont have personal knowledge). But the Catholic hierarchy has been pervasively covering up the bad seeds. The Pope is at the top. There is a lot of corruption in Rome (my sons grandfather was from Rome) and that has been allowed to trickle down.
THIS STOPS NOW.
Hey, Mr. Pope. You had better come clean on all this because it is really starting to taint your church.

Just like ObaMao was all for tearing down the USA, this false pope is all for tearing down the Catholic Church.
But the Church will survive. Christ promised that the Gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church.
Gd bless all the great Catholics and their Church. These are fallible humans and yes, you guys will overcome this. But you need your Pope to step up... or step down. Time to be open about this. Shine the light on it and the crimes and sins will not be able to survive.
All 130,000 should have turned around and mooned the Fake Pope. Of course, given his anti-Christian ideology and likely sexual orientation, that might have just gotten him drooling.
Most of this crap happened in the 70’s and 80’s, a huge crackdown occurred in 2002, since then instances are rare. The actual number of new cases is much lower than complaints against teachers, coaches, bio dads and stepdads, etc. 80% of the problem was homo guys recruiting. Rules are quite strictly enforced, no one may be alone with a minor at church or at church activities. Many priests avoid minors altogether. Please think it through and do not allow yourself to be manipulated by the MSM, the majority of priests are good guys.
