Washington D.C., Aug 25, 2018 / 09:10 am (CNA).- The U.S. bishops conference has confirmed that Cardinal Joseph Tobin of Newark has been appointed by Pope Francis to participate in Octobers 25th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which will meet to discuss young people, the faith, and vocational discernment.
Tobin will join Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, Archbishop José H. Gomez, Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, Bishop Frank J. Caggiano, and Bishop Robert E. Barron, who, according to a July 23 USCCB press release, were elected by the U.S. bishops conference to attend the conference, after which their election was ratified by Pope Francis.
After the USCCB posted that press release to its web site, Tobins name was added to it, a USCCB spokesperson confirmed.
As of August 25, the cardinals name is listed among those who were elected by the bishops conference. However, a USCCB spokesperson told CNA that Tobin was, in fact, named a delegate by Pope Francis after the Pope accepted the delegates elected by the USCCB.
Tobin is the chairman of the USCCBs Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations. From 2010 to 2012 he was secretary of the Vaticans Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. From 1997 to 2009, he was superior general of the Redemptorists, his religious congregation.
The synod will take place October 3-28, 2018.
They need to cancel the synod.
I accidentally duplicated your thread. I missed the posting of yours by two minutes. I have asked for my thread to be deleted.
Mea culpa.
You’re not used to my posting these Catholic articles, LOL!
I was told to make a mess and that’s exactly what I’m doing.
Is is okay to Tweet the pope a link to Archbishop Vigano’s letter?
(Asking for a friend)
I think Abp Viganò should sleep with a gun under his pillow.
Youth synod? For what? Practice pickup lines?
Most definitely. One should always begin, if possible, by making sure that the one who needs to be called to repentance is informed.
Well, he has been known to be tone deaf from the beginning.
At least the USCCCB sent Chaput.
LOL! Or maybe learn to be more discreet about tweeting Nighty night, baby?
I think its very telling that Tobin was actually NOT among those selected by the USCCB, which is in itself a horrible, self-protecting organization, but directly appointed by Bergoglio after he noticed that Tobin was not on the USCCB list.
Do it x10,000
Viganò's letter said that the Pope complained that the Archbishop of Philadelphia was an ideologueunless I read it incorrectly. It shocked me. Can anyone further explain this claim?
Bergoglio is --- choose one or more --- quasi-Catholic, trans-Catholic, post-Catholic, anti-Catholic.
Bergogio's select buddies often say what he is too crafty and devious to say. His advisor Abp. Charles Scicluna once remarked --- tweeted, I think--- Whoever wishes to discover what Jesus wants from him, he must ask the Pope, this Pope, not the one who came before him, or the one who came before that. This present Pope.
As regards reason, this is absurdity; and as regards the Faith, heresy.
Another of Francis' buddies, Fr. Thomas Rosica, his chief English-language communications consultant, made this jaw-dropping freaky statement:
"Pope Francis breaks Catholic traditions whenever he wants, because he is free from disordered attachments. Our Church has indeed entered a new phase: with the advent of this first Jesuit pope, it is openly ruled by an individual rather than by the authority of Scripture alone or even its own dictates of tradition plus Scripture."
He said this approvingly.
It's --- I'm sitting here shaking my head wordlessly --- such obsequious drivel, such... (searching my bad-adjectives thesaurus) such risible rubbish. How can anyone take this crap seriously?
So yeah. Anybody who actually adheres to anything identifiably Catholic, is to be rejected as an "ideologue."
Excuse me. I need a drink.
There’s reason why Chaput had not been elevated to the college of cardinals, while the likes of Cupich, Farrell, Joseph Tobin, etc. have.
Perzackly.
This papal crisis is tragic; but sometimes it takes just blatant heresy and/or evil for the faithful to rise up. Several prottie denominations are on their last legs mainly because of heresy. Catholicism won't die, but many congregations may wither. Better to have quality than quantity within the fold. And even more buildings than have already been shuttered will likely be sacrificed if there aren't enough priests to serve. Or, the priests who remain after a house-cleaning will have to work very hard and very efficiently, with an emphasis on teaching the scriptures instead of on works, or priestly privileges. When I read over and over that McCarrick victimized seminarians at "his" beach house (!) I feel livid.
So it's been an honor, then -- the stone the builders threw away. Looking on from the outside, the RC apologists I read on FR and elsewhere and in whom I have faith are Burke, Chaput and Charles Pope, and a few others.
And with apologies, not intending to disrupt a caucus thread; but grateful for your clarifications, and also for your many posts on the current crisis, which affects all of the Body of Christ worldwide. Carry on!
