Cardinal Donald Wuerls name will be removed from North Catholic High School, the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh announced Wednesday morning.
In a news release, the diocese said that the board of directors of Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School and the board of Catholic High Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh accepted Wuerls request to remove his name from the school in Cranberry.
Bishop David Zubik accepted the recommendations. The schools name will be North Catholic High School.

Get out front and make it look like a parade.
They should rename it Holy Innocents.
I think it was Mark Twain who said never to name anything after someone who is still alive, because “you never know what the damn fool will do next”
Maybe someday we can do the same for, say, past presidents who have molested the U.S.A. But I also think there is a certain value of forcing them to leave the names on in some form as a reminder.
A baby step for the Church, and only under the pressure from a petition? EVERYONE who was involved or had knowledge of this latest outrage has to be defrocked if priests. For EVERYONE who knew, priests and others, they have to be excommunicated and removed from any further association with the RC Church.
I don't know how else they save Roman Catholicism. This latest outrage which adds willful plans to hide abuse is just one scandal too many.
JMHO
And that is better?
It was North Catholic High for many, many years.
About a decade ago the Diocese went on a major fundraising campaign to build a new palatial school in Cranberry Township, an affluent, growing suburb (moving the school from an older city neighborhood).
Again, chasing the money to the suburbs while they close parishes and schools in town. It was at that time that Wuerl’s name was attached to the high school.
Same reason I want to keep Confederate statues. Just add ‘em holding a white flag.
Jubilation T. Cornpone’s statue would fill the bill!
