Swimming against the tide of promises to crack down on abuse and cover-up led by Pope Francis, a newly created Mexican cardinal said that some accusers should be “ashamed” to point their finger at clerics because many of them have skeletons in their own closets.
The victims of pedophilia who “accuse men of the Church should [be careful] because they have long tails that are easily stepped on,” said Cardinal Sergio Obeso Rivera.
The cardinal, emeritus Archbishop of Xalapa, in Veracruz, Mexico, spoke to journalists before a celebration he led in his former diocese.

While I am very upset with all of this I am reminded of what our pastor Fr Fred said last Sunday when he declared that he would always serve Christ as a priest regardless for he could see no other alternatives that make sense to him.
Every criminal act should be prosecuted. The church or school are not law enforcement organizations. They also have a legal obligation to report much of these crimes in most states. The DAs and AGs need to get to work and clean up.

To be perfectly honest, markomalley, I read what the old communist said, and I thought back to what professed Catholics on this very forum were insinuating about this very issue ten and fifteen years ago and I wonder; what did the Pope’s Freeper name used to be?
Most of the victims are not "kids" ... but that's beside the point. Even the most hardened sinner, the most guilty criminal, can still be the victim of a crime. That's where this idiot runs off the rails. "She's a prostitute" is not a defense to a charge of rape.

I agree completely. I left four years ago and am so happy that I did. The moral reprobates running that organization make my skin crawl.
The skeletons in my closet consist of stuff like passing on donating to what later turned out to be worthy causes or streaking when I was a young man when it was stylish or pounding down a few too many barley pops . . . not even in the same league as these guys . . .
