HARRISBURG, Pa. A landmark grand jury report identifies more than 300 "predator priests" in six of Pennsylvania's Roman Catholic dioceses, the state Supreme Court said Friday in ordering the findings released. (Tap here to read the court ruling.)
The justices said the report on clergy child sexual abuse going back decades and allegations of cover-up efforts will be made public but without the names or "individual specific information" of priests and others who have challenged the findings, at least in the initial version to be released.
The court wants the redaction process to be completed by Aug. 8, when the 900-page report is expected to be made public. If there are disputes about what a court-appointed special master should black out, the report will go out the following week.
The Supreme Court said it will consider the challenges by some priests and others who say their constitutional rights to their reputations and to due process of law are being violated, based on not being able to address the grand jury.
"We believe that the risk that the grand jury's pronouncements will be seen as carrying the weight of governmental and judicial authority -- and as themselves embodying the voice of the community relative to particular findings -- is substantial," Chief Justice Thomas Saylor wrote.

When are you going to stop finger pointing and condemn your own priests and clergy who protected them and DID the shuffling?
300 priests in 6 parishes. How big are those parishes?
How many are homoerotic?
Judgement has come to the household of God.
Let me know when any of them claim to be THE ONE TRUE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST, whose Popes are Vicars of Christ and whose priests are "In persona Christi". Thanks!
It is a stalling tactic.
Got to realize that the Church NEEDS a house cleaning BIGTIME.
6 dioceses, not parishes.
It is this horrible sexual abuse scandals that hurts the good and holy priests as well.
But also understand that this cannot be denied and going on the defensive is no help in coming to terms.
Nobody's doing or saying that!!!
Ping to post 64.
It’s more deflection and changing the subject and still, no condemnation of the priests who are guilty or their higher ups who protected them but not the laity they moved them to.
Of course, not all priests do this. In my catholic hight school, I did not know anyone who was abused, or no one admitted it.
We always did wonder what the high school priests (3 of them) were doing with the nuns in the convent down the street. We simply did not know. I do know, however, that one of those priests did marry the school secretary. It was a big scandal. Her son and daughter, were my classmates. They didn't like it much. All I knew, is what went on in my school. I never heard about any others. This was a time when information was not passed around much.
I remember hearing rumors back when I was in the sixth through eight grades (60’s) at a Catholic school I attended about the priests messing around with the nuns. Who doesn’t remember the stories about little babies being buried behind convents?
We heard the same rumors in WNY.
But they haven’t been convicted in court. Nevertheless the list of names is easy to find online. Harrisburg’s list, that is.
every case against any priest should be in a court of law...
Looking at the Harrisburg list, it appears to run the gamut from Priests who have been convicted or against whom there is very solid evidence for the charge, and others who were the focus of an online accusation years after they had left their parish.
It looks like they cast a very wide net in order to boost the total numbers. I think at least some of these Priests may have a case for being slandered.
