As a young man studying to be a priest in the 1980s, Robert Ciolek was flattered when his brilliant, charismatic bishop in Metuchen, N.J., Theodore E. McCarrick, told him he was a shining star, cut out to study in Rome and rise high in the church.
Bishop McCarrick began inviting him on overnight trips, sometimes alone and sometimes with other young men training to be priests. There, the bishop would often assign Mr. Ciolek to share his room, which had only one bed. The two men would sometimes say night prayers together, before Bishop McCarrick would make a request come over here and rub my shoulders a little that extended into unwanted touching in bed.

But, but, gays are good.
They have pride (evidently along with other priests and alter boys).
But don’t worry, when they are “scout” leaders, they won’t be gay.
With this kind of pride, wonder what shame looks like.
In a mere 50 years since the Church began looking the other way when gays joined the seminary, they’ve managed to destroy an institution that stood for 2 millennia.
Thank you Lord that finally the light is being shone upon such misdeeds and horrors.
Lotsa fruits here, for sure.
The people running our religion and media are tied to this movement and so are a lot of folks in Congress.
Homosexuality at its core is the sexual molestation and imprinting of young boys and men by deviants. It is an abomination. Until the Catholic Church purges all homosexuals from the clergy. makes celibacy optional so as to attract more normal heterosexuals to the priesthood and disbands the Jesuit order which has devolved into an unspeakable cabal, the crisis will continue.
The one completely true headline that you will never see: “The problem with homosexual priests in the Catholic church.”
Brilliant and hyper simplistic all at once.
Tell the boys who have been molested by clergy they trusted that is was just “simplistic”.
I think that you have failed to distinguish what I praise, and what I do not praise.
You propose three things—the final one gets full marks from me for brilliancy and near-originality now days; the first one is not original but I think, so far as it can be implemented, crucial for a solution. The second one is suggested by a great many people and seems to me to promise much more than it will actually deliver.
I don’t agree with all you put forward, but I agree and applaud much.
I remember years ago a Catholic bishop in Atlanta was caught with a young person, for which he was removed from his post, condemned from the pulpit in my church, and forced to retire.
His crime? The bishop had been carrying on an affair with a 28 year old.....wait for it.....WOMAN!!!
Oh, the horror!/s
I would like to know when the NY Slimes will do a piece on allah-muslims and their love of farm animals.
Not holding my breath.
I thank the Holy Spirit for giving me the Faith to remain a practicing Catholic in these troubled times. I will continuing attending Mass each week at a traditional Catholic church, perform works of mercy and try to be a good person to the best of my ability.
That being said, I no longer have confidence in my diocesan Bishop, the USCCB and Pope Francis. There remain some very holy Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals in the US but unfortunately, they are in the minority.
As the late great Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen once said:
“WHO IS GOING TO SAVE OUR CHURCH? NOT OUR BISHOPS, NOT OUR PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS. IT IS UP TO THE PEOPLE. YOU HAVE THE MINDS, THE EYES, THE EARS TO SAVE THE CHURCH. YOUR MISSION IS TO SEE THAT YOUR PRIESTS ACT LIKE PRIESTS, YOUR BISHOPS, LIKE BISHOPS, AND YOUR RELIGIOUS ACT LIKE RELIGIOUS.
It’s like the song “YMCA” ... gays congregate and are drawn to places that have a huge congregation of men, no women. Then they prey upon them.
The church needs to purge them.
