No money is involved in current indulgences.....just prayers. What is "alms-giving" then??? If it's just prayers, then why is fasting also involved? Are you sure you know what your religion teaches on this?

Really? What is “whacky” about it? Do you deny that the RC practice of Indulgences wouldn’t do exactly like my example gave?

No, the Roman Catholic church is not my church. I had no choice in the matter over what was done to me as an infant. Once I could reason and search for the truth, God showed me the true gospel and I left of my own free will. Your religion holds no attraction to me. Odd how you want to always change the subject and go to your old standby.
You DO know, I hope, that you are sounding a lot like Muslims do when they say someone born into Islam can NEVER leave? They are considered heretics and infidels and can be executed. Do you think like that?

Almsgiving helps the poor. Says she who claimed "No money is involved in current indulgences.....just prayers.".

Almsgiving is threefold — it need not involve money.
Time
Talent
Treasure

To refresh your memory, here is the context of my comment. You claimed earlier to Agamemnon:
"No money is involved in current indulgences.....just prayers.".
Now you seem to contradict that by claiming that "almsgiving" - which does involve money (a.k.a. "treasure") - is involved in indulgences. So it's NOT "just prayers" like you said. Rather than try to play gotcha games, why don't you simply admit you misspoke? Money still is a part of indulgences though thankfully, they aren't being sold to the exploited penitents anymore.

"Indulgences" may as well be like those who were told they have fallen from Grace because they were trying to be justified through their own actions/deeds instead of believing in God's Grace and Christ's gift, and that denies the Gospel...
In Jeremiah, God told us about the New Covenant He would set in place and His words were something to the effect that when He did this, He would forgive our wickedness and recognize our sins no more...like religion, "Indulgences" is a man-made bastardization of God's Word by interpretation to indulge the fancies of those "running" the religion.

Treasure could mean what one lady does at our church. She has talent with computers, time to give and her treasure is the knowledge of computers. No money is involved.

Frankly, FReeper FRiend Agamemnon, I don’t know you and I wouldn’t dare to comment on any of your beliefs -— especially since I don’t know what they are -— unless I had asked you to explain them first.
Makes sense to me.

Yes.
Only the blood of Jesus can deal with sin and we confess to the Father who promises to forgive us ALL our sin.

Good grief.
There is no purgatory, there is no penance, there is no treasury of merit.....
Its all a well crafted system of bondage to keep people from realizing and accepting the FREE GIFT of salvation that God offers us that is available just for the receining/believeing.
