New clashes between Buddhist extremists and Muslims occurred in two different towns in Sri Lanka, in 2018. Triggered in part by hate-filled posts spread by nationalistic Sinhala Buddhist Facebook groups, these riots resulted in the death of one Muslim and the destruction of many buildings.
... The movement known as Buddhism revivalism or Protestantism in Sri Lanka started with Anagarika Dharmapala (1864-1933). Known as the father of Buddhist Protestantism in Sri Lanka, Dharmapala had an anti-imperialist and nationalist agenda. Besides fighting the British, who ruled Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) at the time, Dharmapala focused on founding Buddhist schools and strengthening the Sinhala language and Buddhism in Sri Lankas public sphere.
...Currently, Sri Lankas most active Buddhist extremist group is Bodu Bala Sena (Buddhist power force, or BBS). BBS entered politics in 2012 with a Buddhist-nationalist ideology and agenda, its leaders claiming that Sri Lankans had become immoral and turned away from Buddhism. And whom does it blame? Sri Lankan Muslims.
BBSs rhetoric takes its cue from other populist anti-Muslim movements around the globe, claiming that Muslims are taking over the country thanks to a high birth rate. It also accuses Muslim organisations of funding international terrorism with money from Halal-certified food industries. These arent just empty words; in 2014, one of their anti-Muslim protest rallies in the southern town of Aluthgama ended with the death of four Muslims.
.. It is hard to say if these latest events really do represent a global trend, but its deeply ominous to see extremist organisations collaborating across borders. Sri Lanka and Myanmar arent the only countries where this is happening; Thailand is also often mentioned as a hotbed of increasingly belligerent Buddhist extremism. Perhaps the next violent riots to pit Buddhists and Muslims against each other will be taking place in yet another country.

I had enough of their crap too. That was back in the 70s, when I met a bunch of them, who were going to pilot training at USAF bases.

Buddhists throughout hhistory have defeb=nded their nations. It is only recently that that Buddhists are expected top wholesale sacrifice themselves to the basic principles of the Hinayaya , sacrificing themselves for enlightenment instead of fighting.
Tibet was invaded becaise the regent of the ci=urrent dialai Lhama refused to spend money on the traditional defence of Tibet, he spent it oon art work instead of on ordnance to keep the various passes into China closed, and anti air craft guns. The 13th Dalai Lhama, the current Dalai Lhama’s predecessor, had no hesitation in defending Tibetan borders.
So what we are seeing in Myanmar , Thailand and in other areas, a resurgence of Buddhist militancy , is actually par for the course out of history. The Buddhists rise up en masse, and the eradicate these monsters who kill, maim, rape and pillage in the name of Islam. Then there is a period of peace once again.
however the American left wants these Buddhists to lay down their swords and let Islam roll over them?
Not going to happen.
President Trump should be supporting those who wish to eradicate jihadists from Buddhist lands. He should send them guns, bullets and butter.
Sorry for re-post, spellcheck is my friend:

Man BITES dogs.
I lived over in Southeast Asia during quite a few of my formative years, and yes Buddhist monks can’t get very pissed off. And when they do they take to the streets and start caning the offenders. It’s happened time and time again, people think love peace and Woodstock is all these Buddhist monks care about but that’s not true. When they are tested they respond and they respond quickly and without remorse.
Good
"It's not a gang, it's a club!"
Their apparent aim was to separate Rakhine from Myanmar, so that it could be gobbled up by Muslim Bangladesh (along with the rights to the offshore oil and gas discoveries). Myanmar's military decided that this was NOT going to happen.
A similar dynamic exists in Thailand's heavily-Muslim southern provinces, where there are big offshore oil and gas deposits.
In Sri Lanka, there appears to be a trend of Tamil Hindus converting to Islam, which is at around 10% of the population, the point where Muslims really start causing trouble.
They used to be...
“Hey! I told you to leave your guitar back in the camp!”
;^)
Look up “Yamabushi.”
Think it’s long over due that the Hindus hooked up with the Buddhists and just wiped the slate clean of muslims over there.
How badly do you have to behave to get BUDDHISTS angry enough to attack?
Methinks the moon-worshippers EARNED their current treatment!
The title of this article is ridiculous. Violent? Extremists?
As you know, Buddhist doctrine is not one of pacifism, as western leftists would like to believe and promote. The view is non-aggression which simply means “don’t start nuthin’ won’t be nuthin’.” For the practitioner it goes much deeper than that but that is the practical sum of it.
Of course most Buddhists around the world will suffer a great deal of indignities heaped upon them before reacting. But self defense is not a downfall and if force is necessary to defend life and limb it will be more than sufficient to pacify the threat.
Buddhists don’t start wars but they will end them if they possess the means to won’t they?

Unfortunately we live in Jambudvipa, not a heaven realm. Buddhist states have to exercise self protection as they have for millennia. Those who have not, have ceased to exist.

Let’s see: Buddhists (peaceful); Mohammadans (evil).
I can’t possibly figure which one I should back.
