New clashes between Buddhist extremists and Muslims occurred in two different towns in Sri Lanka, in 2018. Triggered in part by hate-filled posts spread by nationalistic Sinhala Buddhist Facebook groups, these riots resulted in the death of one Muslim and the destruction of many buildings.
... The movement known as Buddhism revivalism or Protestantism in Sri Lanka started with Anagarika Dharmapala (1864-1933). Known as the father of Buddhist Protestantism in Sri Lanka, Dharmapala had an anti-imperialist and nationalist agenda. Besides fighting the British, who ruled Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) at the time, Dharmapala focused on founding Buddhist schools and strengthening the Sinhala language and Buddhism in Sri Lankas public sphere.
...Currently, Sri Lankas most active Buddhist extremist group is Bodu Bala Sena (Buddhist power force, or BBS). BBS entered politics in 2012 with a Buddhist-nationalist ideology and agenda, its leaders claiming that Sri Lankans had become immoral and turned away from Buddhism. And whom does it blame? Sri Lankan Muslims.
BBSs rhetoric takes its cue from other populist anti-Muslim movements around the globe, claiming that Muslims are taking over the country thanks to a high birth rate. It also accuses Muslim organisations of funding international terrorism with money from Halal-certified food industries. These arent just empty words; in 2014, one of their anti-Muslim protest rallies in the southern town of Aluthgama ended with the death of four Muslims.
.. It is hard to say if these latest events really do represent a global trend, but its deeply ominous to see extremist organisations collaborating across borders. Sri Lanka and Myanmar arent the only countries where this is happening; Thailand is also often mentioned as a hotbed of increasingly belligerent Buddhist extremism. Perhaps the next violent riots to pit Buddhists and Muslims against each other will be taking place in yet another country.

Kewl! What happens when Satanism goes up against nihilism? I would guess even nihilism wins. Who wants to be tortured for eternity?
Apparently Bill Clinton does.
Ghandi Strikes Back.
interesting- didn’t know Buddhists were violent
it should not be big news that somebody is finally fighting back...
although Christianity and Buddhism are based on peace, we can not be little mice when it comes to life and limb...
Gandhi was hindu
This is a weird and false theme currently propagated by the left establishment that Buddhists are attacking and subjugating poor innocent Muslims.
Buddhism revivalism or Protestantism? Horse hockey. I dont think the two can be mentioned in the same sentence.
Buddhism gets a bad rap from the some Christians. When in fact you can be a Christian and a Buddhist. Jesus is the answer, Buddhism is how you live. Buddha is not a God, he’s just the first buddhist.
Go-Buddists!
Last year, Myanmar expelled about 700,000 Muslims to Bangladesh. Look for Sir Lanka and Thailand to do something similar.
This headline sounds sorta like: "Republicans unfairly resist genocide by Democrats."
Or: "Family shoots neighbor's innocent pit-bulls after third child is chewed to shreds by the gentle puppies."
According to the genocidal communists and musloids, any resistance to "Death by Musloids" is "unfair".
This has been going on for a long time, the Buddhist have had enough of the Muslims crap.
“Last year, Myanmar expelled about 700,000 Muslims to Bangladesh. Look for Sir Lanka and Thailand to do something similar.”
I love it too! None of that “sexual emergency” nonsense that is going on in Europe where women are getting raped left and right. In Myanmar if a muslim man so much as looks at a Buddhist woman the wrong way the men will burn down an entire Muslim city block! They don’t play around.
I was in Sri Lanka back in late ‘94. Buddhist killing muslims is nothing new in Sri Lanka; probably just making the news now because muzzies are the left’s besttest buddies now.

Cripes, who wrote this crap?
You know, when you p*** off a bunch of serene Buddhist monks in saffron robes & turn them into avenging gun wielding militants,
Well.....only Muslims could manage to do that.
I don't use the term Protestant to club together various non-orthodoxy Christian groups as the various groups there are too diverse in beliefs - from Lutherans all the way to Oneness Pentecostals (who reject the Trinity) and even the Universal Unitarians were an early offshoot (pre-Anabaptist).
It is far better to address Baptists as Baptists, Methodists as methodists etc and respect their differences in beliefs
Otherwise the umbrella term can become so wide that it could even be used as in this article.
