The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head. (Psalm 110)

The Messiah sits at the right hand of God, and receives a commission from the Most High,. He is to take his seat in the place of glory, honor and power, and to rule over his already defeated enemies.

The enemies had been decisively defeated by Messiah, the “seed of the woman crushed the head of the serpent”, but the mop-up operation has been entrusted to the people of the Messiah. They are wiling and empowered by the Father to go forth and to proclaim the LORD’s victory at the hand of the Messiah.

Evil ones still exist, it is at present the “Evil day”, this is “their hour and the power of darkness”, butt the head of Satan has been broken. Messiah’s people live in this world, but are not of it…they go out and preach the gospel and the coming Kingdom of God.

The Messiah is King already, awaiting the ultimate coronation day.

But the Messiah is also a Priest. The LORD has sworn and will not relent, Messiah will be a Priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.

Who was Melchizedek?

He appeared first in Genesis in the days of Abraham. His name is a compound title, “Melchi” and “Zedek”, which means “King”(Melchi), and Righteousness,”Zedek”. King Righteousness!

It was while Abraham was returning from the battle with the KINGS, in which God used Abraham, his family and servants to recover his nephew Lot, and the people of Sodom, when they were to be sold as slaves.

Both the King of Sodom and Melchizedek presented themselves to Abraham as He returned to the spoil. The King of Sodom offered to make Abraham rich, as the deliverer of his people, but Abraham refused.

And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.(Genesis 14:17-24)

Where does this Melchizedek, “Priest of the most High God…” come from?

There is no account of where He originated, and we do not know what ultimately became of him, He just seemingly stepped out of eternity, and blessed Abraham upon the occasion of his victory. This is how the Epistle to the Hebrews in the New Testament describes it;

For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. (Hebrews 7:1-3)

Melchizedek is the King of Salem, which means “peace”. He offered Abraham a blessing from the “Most High God”, and Bread and Wine, which was a fellowship meal. Abraham chose the Bread, Wine and the blessing over Sodom’s rich booty, submitting to the Priest/King.

The order of Melchizedek is composed of King/Priests, many believe Melchizedek to be a Christophany, an Old Testament appearance of the Messiah.

There is no account of where He originated, and we do not know what ultimately became of him.

His order is his manner of business - how he does things according to what rules his ways. He is the king of righteousness because righteousness is his king.

John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

It was Jebus during the time of David, when he conquered the Jebusites, although I think they just surrendered and converted to his religion.

But Melchizedek is important in that he was not just a ‘king’ but a high priest AND king!..................
