VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Francis, starting Holy Week services leading to Easter, urged young people on Sunday to keep shouting and not allow the older generations to silence their voices or anesthetize their idealism.
Francis spoke a day after hundreds of thousands of young Americans and their supporters answered a call to action from survivors of last months Florida high school massacre and rallied across the United States to demand tighter gun laws.
He did not mention the demonstrations. Catholic News Service (CNS) said Gabriella Zuniga, 16, and her sister Valentina, 15, both students from Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, where 17 people were killed in February, attended the service with their parents.
CNS posted a photo of the two holding up signs in St. Peters Square, with one reading, Protect Our Children, Not Our Guns.
The 81-year-old Francis led a long and solemn Palm Sunday service before tens of thousands in the square, many of them young people there for the Catholic Churchs World Day of Youth.
Francis led a procession in front of the largest church in Christendom to commemorate the day the Bible says Jesus rode into Jerusalem and was hailed as a savior, only to be crucified five days later.
YOU HAVE IT IN YOU TO SHOUT
Drawing on biblical parallels, Francis urged the young people in the crowd not to let themselves be manipulated.
The temptation to silence young people has always existed, Francis said in the homily of a Mass.
There are many ways to silence young people and make them invisible. Many ways to anesthetize them, to make them keep quiet, ask nothing, question nothing. There are many ways to sedate them, to keep them from getting involved, to make their dreams flat and dreary, petty and plaintive, he said.

If that nose was upturned a little more, he would be the classic fascist pig.
Seems? He took off from the rails a longtime ago.
Just another elitist living behinds gates and walls with armed guards that is out of touch with the real world!
“Pope” Francis: There are many ways to silence young people and make them invisible. Many ways to anesthetize them, to make them keep quiet, ask nothing, question nothing.”
It starts by allowing the priests to rape them. Then make them feel shame and fear to come forward. Yes, the pope knows all about it. Don’t speak up against church abuses, instead, deflect attention to some fabricated enemy who has done nothing wrong. He sounds more like the anti-Christ to me.
This Pope sucks. Always.
Blessed are the meek.....
So the Pope, old fart that he is, wants to capitulate to the millions of young islamists who demand the establishment of the caliphate and the rightful rule of Allah?
Guys a damned fool atheist.
Pope Francis Pelosi?
Right on cue for the obnoxious brain washed kids in DC.
Looks like that quaint, archaic concept of honor thy father and mother is obsolete in the brave new era of Pope Francis
Hitler had at least one ball. This fascist has none. Just a byotchy oriface.
And this is why I haven’t gone to Mass for years now. I don’t like this pope. He gives me the creeps.
Naiveté towards government corresponds to cynicism towards society — including churches and their teachings. Cynicism is an antonym for faith, and"Without faith it is impossible to please God. — Hebrews 11:6
Honour thy father and thy mother, that thou mayest be longlived upon the land which the Lord thy God will give thee.Looks like this Pope is teaching children to be disobedient to the Ten Commandments. As it says in James 2:10, breaking one commandment means breaking them all.
Exodus 20:12
Honour thy father and mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee, that thou mayst live a long time, and it may be well with thee in the land, which the Lord thy God will give thee.
Deuteronomy 5:16
Honour thy father and thy mother, which is the first commandment with a promise: / That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest be long lived upon earth.
Ephesians 6:2-3
Noting that I did not hear what the pope said, please consider the following.
The popes alleged message hauntingly reflects Mark 7:6-13. In that passage, Jesus reprimanded the Pharisees and teachers of the law for encouraging young people to disobey the "Honor Thy Father and Mother
commandment, the Pharisees thus driving a wedge between parents and their children.
