DES MOINES, Iowa, March 20, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) Sixty-eight faith leaders who say they are Christian signed a letter of protest against a proposed Iowa law that would protect preborn children from abortion once their heartbeat is detectable.
"As faith leaders, we want to use our collective voices to stand with Iowa women in support of their constitutional right ... to an abortion," the letter to the editor of the Des Moines Register begins. Speaking against the Iowa Heartbeat Bill, the faith leaders write supportively of a pregnant mother's "private medical decisions, referring to her choosing abortion.
Most Iowans, people of faith and no faith, believe in and are standing with every womans right to be in control of their bodies and the healthcare decisions that impact their lives. We stand with Iowa women, too, they state in the March 15 letter.
Mainline Protestant denominations led the letter in both numbers and prestige, with a female United Methodist bishop and priestesses from the Presbyterian Churches USA, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, United Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, American Baptist Churches USA, Reformed Church in America, Unity Church, Episcopal Church, and United Methodist Church signing the document.
A fundamental point of disagreement between Heartbeat Bill supporters and opponents is on the reasons for the legislation. Opponents of the Heartbeat Bill, including signers of the Des Moines Register op-ed, claim that its framers have "arguments based only in religious beliefs," meaning the sanctity of innocent human life.

They had the exact same opportunity the men had, to make the responsible decision and make a choice about how they used their bodies - before having unprotected sex.
Unprotected or not (Because babies happen from both), women are responsible for their actions and MUST BE REQUIRED to be responsible for the babies that come about because of their choices.

The term Christian is overly broad, and thus in this sense meaningless in this regard.
Not at all, from an etymological sense. The ONLY meaning is Christ-Like.
Now if you are talking about how people misuse the phrase, then you are correct.

Of those listed, only women are empowered by law to kill babies, which is why their status in regards to a claimed right to kill babies, and the current legal status of that claim, needs to be addressed distinctly.

Please articulate why they are not currently required to be responsible.

The lineup of denominations listed preached their last biblical gospel sermon about 125 years ago. They can stop calling themselves Christian now.

The death throes of liberal Protestantism in America. Ugly to watch. Meaningless because no one cares what they say or do anymore. The Holy Spirit has gotten His hat and left them to meet their fate.

I agree that the situation with women, in particular, claiming the right to kill their babies, needs to be addressed distinctly.
This killing is in some ways like any other killing, in some ways like some other killing, and in some ways like no other killing.
It's nevertheless true that--- across the board --- nobody (male or female, Church or State, humanitarian or Hitler) has the right to kill babies. Period.

Dont overestimate the education or intelligence of these so-called pastors.. Most of them are dull witted and have only a half baked MDiv from some cow college seminary. Real World critical thinking or ethical training they have little or none.

Oh, and “humanitarian” killing is also increasingly empowered by law, in places quite close to here (e.g. Canada). Merciless mercy for the disabled, depressed, or simply depersonalized.

The allegedly merciful tend to find a way to kill someone else, instead of themselves, much like those who talk about overpopulation never volunteer to personally reduce overpopulation by one.

2 Peter
These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. 18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravityfor people are slaves to whatever has mastered them. 20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.

In other words, the usual suspects.
I have a message for them:
Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.

Not all of us are perfect. That was 4 years after I had become a Christian after 30 years of atheism. The politics and squabbles I saw at the local church level were expected based on my lifelong distrust of organized religion. That particular experience as the Lay Delegate at Annual Conference was my first experience with the church at the denomination level.
My faith in Christ remains strong, but I will never accept a leadership role in a church ever again. I dont trust church leaders, ordained or laity.

Please articulate why they are not currently required to be responsible.
Because they choose to murder (Abort) their own babies instead of being responsible for their own offspring brought about by their choice to have sex.
In a word, Abortion.
