Totalitarian systems are militantly Christophobic. The comments to some of my articles on the dangers of materialism or the ignorance of atheism try to prove that religion is as dangerous to goodness as atheism repeat the false "fact" that "Hitler was a Catholic." This is utterly untrue. Moreover, all Nazism was viciously Christophobic as well as Judeophobic.
My American Thinker article of November 2007 covers some of the evidence found in old books about the hate all Nazis felt toward Christianity. My book, Swastika against the Cross: The Nazi War on Christianity, covers many more documentary sources that reveal Nazi persecution of Christianity and Christianity's lonely war against Nazism. Many writers at the time noted that Christianity was the only force resisting the Nazis in Europe.
Indeed, there were many books about the Nazi persecution of Christianity and hatred of religion published before the Second World War began with titles like The Nazi Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich and The Nazi Persecution of Christianity and The War against God and Nazism versus Religion.
Hundreds of authors writing before and during the Second World War saw Nazism and Christianity as mortal enemies. These authors were Christians – both Catholics and Protestants – and Jews and agnostics. They were on the right and on the left. They were Frenchmen and Germans and Poles and Americans and Britons. The convenient rewriting of history that invents out of whole cloth the notion that Christianity and Nazism were in any way linked runs utterly contrary to the historical record of the time.
But were any leading Nazis Christians in any sense of the word? Emphatically, no. Consider first Hitler himself. John Gunther noted as early as 1935 that "Hitler was born and brought up as a Roman Catholic. But he lost his faith early and attends no religious services ...

Christophobic Nazism: “Hitler was a Catholic,”
Hitler was a Progressive, Socialist Liberal aligned with the Democrat Party in the US, and up until the Day Hitler attacked their mother Russia, they fully supported him in every way.
And you cannot be a socialist Progressive liberal and be a Catholic. I don’t care if you have the title of Pope. Catholic is not an ethnicity.
There was a lot of Teutonic Odinism in the Nazi party and in the symbology that they used for their regalia. I do not believe that Hitler was Catholic nor do I believe that he was Christian by practice.
He was born and raised Catholic but it obviously didn’t stick. People try to pin it on Lutherans too, since that was the State Church of Germany. The Nazis coopted it and warped it badly, objective being to thoroughly undermine any Christianity there and replace it with their own racial folk “religion” which was shot through with Teutonic paganism as you note.
What book did the Nazis use as their bible?
Not Niccolo Machiavelli’s “The Prince”
Not the Protocols of the Elders of Zion
It was a book titled Germania by the ancient Roman histrorian Tacitus.
Read about it in Christopher Krebs book: “ A Most Dangerous Book:Tacitus’s Germania From the Roman Empire to the Third Reich
By having millions of people murdered, hitler had left the Catholic church long ago. He acted against the teaching of the Church.
When muzzies murder, they act in accordance with the teachings of their “holy” book.
Just because someone is “born into” or educated in a particular belief system it won’t necessarily keep them from falling away, sometimes violently so. Stalin was brought up in the expectation he’d become and actually studied to be an Orthodox priest. And he was considered a brilliant (albeit unruly) student to boot. Grew up to become a being whose evil put Hitler’s to shame.
Well, thank you I guess, but I believe I said it obviously didn’t stick.
He most certainly was not, the Nazis followed a pagan nativist religion.
Imagine the contrast with Islam and its many slaughtering, raping, oppressing conquerors? Those lands are still held captive. And the muslims loved Hitler.
What is the acceptable number of people murdered to keep in teaching with the Church? The Inquisition had many thousands burned and tortured but it may not have reached millions.
Would this be the same as suggesting that since progressivism is closely linked to Socialism and Communism, which has killed far more numbers than Hitler between Stalin and Mao, that progressivism, socialism, and communism is/are dangerous....?
That's the scary part. Soon there will be only a few of these books left and Libs will just write new books "showing" how all those old books are/were "wrong".
And... the Inquisition had nothing to do with real Christianity. It, along with today's European royalties ancestors, only used Christianity as a cover to justify their ruthless grab at power.
Hitler was not a Christian of any denomination.
There are several lines of misinformation and fallacy involved.
The first is the ad hominem fallacy. Supposing that Hitler (or a serial killer, or a child molester) were a believing Christian, or claim to be one. Does the moral quality of a person who believes in something tell us anything about the truth or falsity of the belief itself? Of course not. Similarly, if Hitler or a serial killer happened to be atheists, that would tell us nothing about the truth or falsity of atheism.
The second is the issue of historical fact. Taken together (as opposed to each side's selective quotation), we know that Hitler made reference to God and that he had superstitious occult beliefs. That means that he was not a materialistic atheist like the Communists were. On the other hand, his anti-Christian statements make it clear that he wasn't a Christian either. Putting this together, Hitler was most likely some sort of pagan or deist with weird superstitious/occult beliefs. This makes him even more irrelevant as fodder for the Fundamentalists Creationism vs. Atheist Evolutionism websites that both use him in opposite ways to sell their cause.
In my last post “Provenance” should be “Providence.”
According to Albert Speer, Hitler told him in private, “The Mohammedan religion too would have been much more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?”
Christianity’s core understanding, that Christ is necessary for salvation, has been portrayed as a path to Hitler for over 70 years in an effort to use people’s rejection of Hitler to get them to also reject the core understanding that Christ is necessary for salvation.
A few years ago I was visiting a family in the former Communist East Germany. It was a large family gathering (50+ people) to welcome a family member back from the states who left 20 years earlier when the wall came down.
There were several aunts in their 90’s who were singing beautiful Christian hymns, and their younger brother who was on a Panzer Tank crew during WWII started tearing up. He said that the hymn they were singing was the same hymn he sang during his induction ceremony into Hitler’s Army.
I never knew that Hitler sold the war as a Christian War until that moment. We talked about it for a while and he explained how Hitler made it easy to hate Jews as they killed Jesus.
"Many thousands burned and tortured" -- The total number executed under the Spanish Inquisition was about 9,000 over 350 years, according to secular historians. That's twice the number killed in a single month in Soviet Russia in the first years after the revolution.
