"YHVH Kabodhi - The LORD My God"

There are so many Wonderful Descriptive Names of God in this Little Verse from Psalm 3! "YHVH My GOD", "My Shield", My Glory", and "The Lifter of My Head". These Names offer more than just descriptions of Who God IS, but also indicate His Relationship to Believers. They Describe Lordship (My God), Protection (My Shield), Imparted Magnificence, Majesty and Power (My Glory), and The Comfort of a Friend( The Lifter of My Head).

We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.

But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Those of us, who own pets and love them, dread that day when we will have to take our furry friend for that "last visit to the vet". Many of this site's members share their sadness when that day approaches, and there are nearly always pages of comfort, advice and condolences. Although we know it is not the same as a human, there is plenty of compassion and love in our hearts to share with those of God's creatures who have come to share their lives with us.

My sister's 15-year-old Maine Coon Cat has been having seizures, and my sister was faced with this decision. Since I had been through it a number of times, I promised I would be with her throughout the process. Last Saturday, an appointment was made for the Vet to come to the house, and I made sure I got there early.

For an hour and a half, we talked, and cried, and hugged, and then the vet showed up. We lifted the kitty up onto the table, whereupon she stood tall and proud, lifted up her head, looked the Vet straight in the eye, and basically quoted Monte Python's Holy Grail movie: "I'm NOT DEAD YET! I'm getting better!". The Vet prescribed a tiny anti-seizure medication, and Kitteh will have more life to live.

Animals have a way of telling us when they sick, guilty, sad, or have given up. They hang their heads and look out of the tops of their eyes. "That Look" is unmistakable, and can only be assuaged by an embrace of forgiveness, love, and kindness.

This embrace is implied by David when he calls God "The Lifter Of My Head".

I can relate to that. Could not put down our 19 year-old kitty till we saw she had totally given up.

But a few years earlier, while living in CA, a cat appeared on our patio and walked fearlessly to me and nuzzled my leg. I found he wore a collar, which had a name Rue and a number. I called it.

He belonged to a neighbor a few doors down. The lady that came to pick him up said she was going to take him to the vet to be put down. But when she opened the door, he fled. He must have sensed something was wrong. And came to me to help. He wanted to live.

She said she would rethink putting him down (though he suffered from some incurable ailment, like cancer.) I hope she did give Rue a reprieve.
