The New American Bible, revised edition, is the basis for the Lectionary used at English-language Masses in the United States; the petition from the Lord's Prayer in Matthew and Luke is translated as: "do not subject us to the final test."

The "final test"? How did they come up with that?

Death, judgement, Heaven and Hell. Nobody gets a free pass.

It’s one of the translations of the Lord’s Prayer in the Bible.

I say it all the time:

“Do not put us to the final test,
But protect us from the evil one.”
