Francis denigrates soldiers, referring to us as "warmongers."
Psalms 55:21 tells us that war is in the hearts of unrepentant sinners.
Also consider that Matthew 8:5-10 shows us that Jesus commended the centurion for his great faith.
Romans 13:1-5, which tells us that G-d is in control, and speaks of the power of the sword, also applies imo.
Do you think Christian soldiers defending their countries should be denied weapons in their battles?
Pope says weapons manufacturers can't call themselves Christian
I did.
Do you think Christian soldiers defending their countries should be denied weapons in their battles?
I don't.
So why are are defending an anti-American peacenik who turns a solemn day in the Church calendar into a political statement?
I figure I have normal reading comprehension, and I didn't see it.
Could you ---or anybody --- find me the money quote?
Taking the occasion to reiterate his deep conviction that wars produce nothing more than cemeteries and death the Pope said he chose to visit a war cemetery as a sign in a moment when our humanity seems not to have learned the lesson, or doesn't want to learn it.
I'm not seeing it either. This Pope has had his share of malapropisms, but until someone produces a direct quote from him in context, I call knee-jerk BS on this thread.
Tear down your wall.
Do either of you two believe in the Catholic just war theory?
RE: The Lord God has commanded us, “You shall not kill.” There are nine words in Hebrew for taking a life. The word used in Exodus 20: 13 for “Thou shalt not kill” is ratsach, a strong verb used to indicate an intentional and unjustified act of murder

How does he reconcile this with the command of God to the Israelites to slaughter the Canaanites? ( Joshua 10:40, 11:15)
The key word is UNJUSTIFIED, and therein lies the argument.
When is killing justified for him?
Is the killing of ISIS militants justified or not?
I do.
OK. Did he say soldiers are all, per se, warmongers?
What does that have to do with posting an article falsely attributing a quote to the Pope?
I don’t know. And why would he say “all” soldiers.
But he has said weapon manufacturers who supply weapons to just soldiers are “warmongers”.
...he stated during his homily that the only fruit of war is death.
Just wars do have fruits. Just look at the U.S. and Europe after WW II.
Look at Europe after the Battle of Lepanto.
OK, since you couldn't find a direct quote from Francis on the other statement, maybe you can provide one for this? I can't find one either.
That is what he said.
He didn’t say soldiers are warmongers.
I do not think so!
No, HE’D say that, not me.
