I think the pope had many good easons to establish the feast. Here is one of the concluding paragraphs from Quas Primas:
The faithful, moreover, by meditating upon these truths, will gain much strength and courage, enabling them to form their lives after the true Christian ideal. If to Christ our Lord is given all power in heaven and on earth; if all men, purchased by his precious blood, are by a new right subjected to his dominion; if this power embraces all men, it must be clear that not one of our faculties is exempt from his empire. He must reign in our minds, which should assent with perfect submission and firm belief to revealed truths and to the doctrines of Christ. He must reign in our wills, which should obey the laws and precepts of God. He must reign in our hearts, which should spurn natural desires and love God above all things, and cleave to him alone. He must reign in our bodies and in our members, which should serve as instruments for the interior sanctification of our souls, or to use the words of the Apostle Paul, as instruments of justice unto God.[35] If all these truths are presented to the faithful for their consideration, they will prove a powerful incentive to perfection. It is Our fervent desire, Venerable Brethren, that those who are without the fold may seek after and accept the sweet yoke of Christ, and that we, who by the mercy of God are of the household of the faith, may bear that yoke, not as a burden but with joy, with love, with devotion; that having lived our lives in accordance with the laws of God’s kingdom, we may receive full measure of good fruit, and counted by Christ good and faithful servants, we may be rendered partakers of eternal bliss and glory with him in his heavenly kingdom.
Today is not the last Sunday of the Church year. The Church liturgical year starts on the First Sunday of Advent.
This was not my understanding why Pius XI instituted this feast day. In fact, the 2014 post that the Rorate Caeli article links in the OP even states the following:

If Pius XI's purpose for the feast had anything to do with "Reformation Sunday" and the Protestants, don't you think he would have mentioned it in his encyclical? Also, why would the Church wait 400 years to do it?
It is my understanding that Pius XI was reacting to the ever-increasing secularism in the modern world and its denial of Christ as its King.
What, did his fiancee leave him at the altar and run off with a Protestant or something?

Today, I had the privelige of assisting at a solemn High Mass celebrating the Feast of Christ the King. The sermon specifically mentioned Pope Pius XI's reason for the date of its institution. Our high Mass was followed by a Eucharist procession around the church's perimeter and Benediction.
There was no communion in the paw, nor altar girls.
I prefer that to which you seem to regect.
Remember, this Wednesday is a Holy Day of Obligation (all Saints Day).

Pre VC II Church vs. post VC II church; the Mass, the Liturgy, the Bible, the church calendar, the saint factory, ecumenia, etc.

I was referring to the last Sunday at the end of next month.
The posted article mentioned the reason for the movement of the Feast of Christ the King in the Church calendar. It was a post-VC II innovation, as were altar chicks, communion on the hoof and in the paw, adultery, the rosary, intercommunion etc.
As a glaring example of hypocrisy, most of the post VC II church now celebrates Ascension Thursday on a Sunday. Makes it easier on those novus ordo priests and parishioners; but a total violation of the Church calendar. The same applies to assigning every other Holy Day of Obligation to the nearest Sunday. The Novus church is a lazy church.

While I am no fan of Pope Francis, I am not surprised why he called Catholics from your side “rigid”.

We are simply worshipping in different rites in the Church, that is all.
