"The doctors of the law are not just of those times, there are so many even today. That is why we need to pray for shepherds. Pray so that we do not lose the key to knowledge and do not close the door to ourselves and the people who want to enter."
Vatican City (AsiaNews) - Do not forget that salvation is free, an expression of God's closeness, because "when you forget the gratuity of salvation you fall, you lose the key to knowledge of the history of salvation". "That is why we need to pray for ourselves as shepherds", said Pope Francis at Mass at Casa Santa Marta this morning. Recalling the passage from Luke's Gospel in which the Scribes and Pharisees considered themselves righteous, and Jesus makes known to them that God alone is just, the Pope explained why law practitioners had "taken knowledge away" with "the consequence of not being able to enter the Kingdom nor let others enter either".

Another excerpt:
“This leads us to understand the revelation of God, to understand God’s heart, to understand God’s salvation - the key to knowledge - we can say it is very neglected. One forgets the freedom of salvation; forgetting the closeness of God and forgetting God’s mercy. And those who forget the gift of salvation, the closeness of God, and the mercy of God, have taken away the key to knowledge. “
Therefore, this gift was “forgotten”. It is “God’s initiative to save us and instead stand on the side of the law”: Salvation - said the Pope - “is there for them”, thus arriving in “a bunch of prescriptions” which in fact become salvation. So, “they do not receive the power of God’s righteousness.” The law, however, is always “an answer to God’s generous love”, which has taken “the initiative” to save us. And, continued Pope Francis, “when you forget the gift of salvation you fall, you lose the key to the intelligence of the history of salvation”, losing “the sense of God’s closeness”:
“For them, God is the one who has made the law. But this is not the God of revelation. The God of revelation is a God who has begun to walk with us from Abraham to Jesus Christ, God walking with His people. And when you lose this close relationship with the Lord, you fall into this dull mindset that believes in the self-sufficiency of salvation with the fulfillment of the law. The closeness of God “.
So you kill and rape 10 girls and can still get into heaven? I don’t think so.
“So you kill and rape 10 girls and can still get into heaven? I dont think so.”
If a man truly repents of his sin, yes. As St. Paul put it: “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.” 1 Tim. 1:15.
Yes, if you're sincerely repentant. Salvation is about repentance. It is the most basic concept of the gospel.
The level of reward or punishment is based on how one lived one's life.
Why don’t you read and meditate on what the Word of God says instead of inserting your own biases?
The Word of God, by the way, is the Bible. I suggest the King James Version.
POpe is right - about those truly seeking salvation, but the bible also says if you find people are not interested in the gospel to not keep spending time on/with them but move on and find others who show some interest or are seeking to know about God.
Doesn’t repentance and asking for forgiveness come before salvation?
excellent advice
“Doesnt repentance and asking for forgiveness come before salvation?”
Of course. As I said: “If a man truly repents of his sin, yes.”
“So you kill and rape 10 girls and can still get into heaven? I dont think so.”
According to the Catholics, repent and all is forgiven.
“...According to the Catholics...”
Actually, according to the Bible.

Generally speaking, Catholicism is a Christian faith.
It is not free. It requires faith, which God will provide if you seek it.
And in Acts of the Apostles, goes into full detail about Paul’s conversion.
I agree.
The pope doesnt seem to understand that people can show by their actions, gay lifestyle for example, that they have rejected Jesus. Titus 1:16 explains this in general.
The pope also doesnt seem to know that Matthew 18:15-17 shows that Jesus taught that members of a congregation who dont repent need to be expelled from the congregation.
In fact, 1 Corinthians 15:33 shows that Paul warned that bad company corrupts good morals.
A Bible is a Bible is a Bible, be it the KJV,NRSV, or JB.
“It is not free. It requires faith, which God will provide if you seek it.”
Faith is a gift. (Ephesians 2:8; 1 Corinthians 12:9; Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1815). http://www.st-catherine-genoa.org/documents/Letters/2010-archive/Letter-2010-10-31-WhatIsFaith.pdf
Wrong.
King James is the standard.
The others are watered down and at times misleading.
No really.
The KJV or its newer version is acceptable to one believer while NRSV or any of the other Bible versions to other believers. The Holy Bible is inspired by God regardless.
Bless your heart.
