The biblical revisionist notwithstanding, the reading from the various references of the S&G story is clear.
An old posting, but still highly relevant considering the hirelings infesting so many flocks.

Inhospitable? All the men of Sodom were beating down Lot's door to force the (male) angels to have sex with them. Lot offered his virgin daughters to the men instead, but they refused and tried to force their way into his house.
Yeah, I think the sin was "being inhospitable".
If that were the case, then Lot and his family would have been destroyed, not Sodom.

As I’ve pointed out in the past: wanting to sexually assault people visiting your town is pretty darn inhospitable.

The book of Jude says otherwise. And what "historical context" are they talking about? Please provide me with any other middle eastern historical texts during the time of the patriarchs in Genesis which would provide "context" for the events at Sodom.

As the article points out, God had already decided to destroy Sodom & Gomorrah before the attempted gang-rape of the 3 visitors, so “inhospitably” or “attempted rape of angels” cannot be the reason they were destroyed. The attempted rape of the angels merely depicts how (homosexually) sex-obsessed the men of Sodom were.

The sin of Sodom was buggery ... a dedication to buggery so intense that they passed on the opportunity to gang-bang girls, while insisting on butt-raping the male visitors.

Would not the “Great Flood” be a much larger and more extensive punishment considering it took everyone out except for Noah and those on the Ark?

Yeah, it’s a sad attempt which ignores the many Scriptures and context of same.
Ya get all sorts of stuff - people out driving in their cars when the Lord comes (slowly-they have time to pull their cars over - Max Lucado) to another guy who’s out driving in a ‘66 Mustang on a leisurely drive when the Lord shows up.

I was kicked out of class once in college for making this point. As I walked out of the door, I said to the instructor, “Where do you think the word, “sodomy” comes from? I still got an A in the course.

People find what they want in the Bible. If one looks hard enough, he can find biblical support for reincarnation, Eastern religions, Jesus as a guru, divorce for any reason, and flying saucers
The Jesus as a guru notion is found nowhere in the Bible, nor the supposed validation of Eastern religions and the notion of reincarnation. That comes from the heretical Aquarian Gospel written by Levi Dowling.

So where in the NT is inhospitality listed as an egregious sin against God?
Galatians 5:19-21 ... nope, not there ...
Colossians 3:5-10 ... nope, nothing ...
Revelation 21:8 ... zippo ...

It's not surprising, then, that a recent trend in biblical scholarship holds that a careful reading of Genesis in its historical context offers no solid basis to conclude that the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah had anything to do with homosexuality. The "recent trend" must include ignoring passages that don't support your agenda.

There were sins of Sodom. Homosexuality was one. However, I don’t believe homosexuality was the prime sin that Sodom was destroyed over. It was sex with angels *or attempted. Sodom ties to Genesis 6, Genesis 14, Jude and 1 Peter. Gays have existed in every city in every generation. Per Romans 1 that lifestyle choice is a consequence of a society that does not worship God as creator. It isn’t the prime sin God destroys civilizations iver. The sin of Sodom goes beyond gay rape. It goes to the Nephilim and that rebellion and an attempt to recreate that world. Read Jude. The going after strange flesh has a deeper meaning than homosexuality.

Typical Bible revisionist: "But, wait! MY interpretation is better! Disregard all the information that's been studied, discussed, and passed down for thousands of years. They were all wrong! I once read the Bible, and I didn't see anything bad about queers in it!"
I think Satan has been working overtime in recent years.....
