Why did God destroy Sodom and Gomorrah? Was the most extensive judgment found anywhere in the Bible outside of the book of Revelation actually for the sin of inhospitality, not homosexuality?
People find what they want in the Bible. If one looks hard enough, he can find "biblical" support for reincarnation, Eastern religions, Jesus as a guru, divorce for any reason, and flying saucers. Every cult of Christianity uses the Bible to validate its claims and so does some of the occult.
It's not surprising, then, that a recent trend in biblical scholarship holds that a careful reading of Genesis in its historical context offers no solid basis to conclude that the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah had anything to do with homosexuality.

In these days of evil, it’s normal to erase warnings and lie about sin and it’s consequences.
Those doing the re-writing will share Satan’s fate in the Lake of Fire. Not much of a future to look forward to.
True. The question I have is that why the verbalized curse due to Ham’s conduct if the curse was genetically already in place?
Interesting topic to be sure
From the Bible:
[Eze 16:49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw [good].
Earlier in the chapter, the Lord likens Israel to the Amorites and Hittites both of which have ties to the Nephilim giants. Sodom’s doom was on its way when the angels visited. When the Sodomites tried to “know” the angels, it was sealed.
I have heard several things. First the looking upon Noah’s nakedness has been conjectured to be Ham looked at Noah’s wife, his Mom, in some illicit way. That still doesn’t explain the curse on Canaan. Second, a theory is that when Noah saw Canaan, he bore some marking of the hybrids. For instance, the 6 fingers of giants in the Americas. And Noah knew there was a curse there. God blessed Noah and his sons. A third conjecture is that since God blessed them man couldn’t curse Ham so he skipped and went to Canaan. I’m not sure what the answer is there.
The Lord had destruction in mind for Sodom and Gomorrah before the angels personally visited.
Homosexuality was certainly rampant there, but, as one commentator mentions, homosexuality was rampant throughout that world and there was no violent overthrow from the Lord. “Going after strange flesh” evidently signifies something much worse than just homosexuality. It is a concept connected with like behavior by angels that caused their overthrow.
I would say that homosexuality combined with the attendant violence was the cause. S&G and the surrounding region were particularly affected by this behavior.
There were sins which are concomitant with and conducive to widespread, homosexual fornication, but the climatic sin culminating in judgment was sodomy, which is also seen in the parallel account of Judges 19.
See here http://peacebyjesus.witnesstoday.org/Homosex_versus_the_Bible.html#19 by the grce of God.
Also, while prohomsex apologists argue that at best all this condemns is rape, versus "living, monogamous relations), yet the nature of treatment is never a factor in laws regarding illicit partners, and no manner of homosexual fornication is ever sanction, but it only condemned whereever it is manifestly dealt with, and with God only joing opposite genders in marriage, as the Lord Jesus Himself specified while on earth. (Mt. 19:4-6)
What God hath placed asunder, let no man join together.
But we all have sinned, and there is room at the cross for all who will repent and believe on the risen Lord Jesus to save them ion His account. But His sinless shed blood, thanks be to God.
So you think basic transcendent and even unconditional moral laws belong in the same category as dietary laws?
See here by God's grace. .
You mean you agree with them or not ?
Should be obvious from my many, many posts.
And my tagline.
They parsed a verse to come up with something that’s false.
They were animalistic, hedonistic people without restraint without God.
Not to mention child-molesting faggots.
Exactly. It is the sin of Genesis 6.
Homosexuality was only one example of the wickedness of the cities. God set His actions on the cities because the outcry of their wickedness was great-it wasn’t because of raping angels or others which happened AFTER God had decided to destroy the cities. Had God found ten righteous people he would not have destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.
Homosexuality was only a symptom of a larger problem of wickedness and evil, something we should give pause to.
It’s horrific to read the account that ALL of the men of the city, both young and old, surrounded Lot’s house. The depravity was thorough and entrenched indeed.
I sensed a touch of sarcasm in his post.
I agree, it is horrific. It is unclear all of the sins of the men of Sodom. Homosexuality certainly was one and should not be excused. However, the people were willing to threaten Lot because he stood in the way of their sinfulness. Also, we might remember Abraham refused to accept anything from the King of Sodom less he would say that it was he that made Abraham rich. So there must have been corruption and extortion going on as well.
It was always a mystery to me why Lot would have remained in that situation except by this time it seems he might have lost a lot of his wealth probably by the hands of the men of Sodom.
Homosexuality, as we have seen in its modern expression, encapsulates many forms of wickedness: Lust, corruption, lack of self control, deceit, carelessness, lack of consideration for others, extortion, gross materialism, etc.
Consider the “dating” apps that are highly popular within the sodomite community. If you read up on them even superficially, you realize how completely debauched that culture is. It makes the entire world essentially their highway rest stop men’s room. And they pursue this with abandon.
