The Pope said he was concerned about 'signs of intolerance, discrimination and xenophobia' in Europe
Pope Francis has criticised Catholics who refuse to accept migrants and refugees into their countries, saying they often cite an ill-defined moral obligation to preserve the original cultural and religious identity of their nations.
The temptation of exclusivism and cultural fortification has arisen among Catholics at times in the past, but the Holy Spirit always helped us to overcome it, guaranteeing a constant opening to the other, the Pope said during a meeting with the directors of migrant and refugee services from the bishops conferences of Europe.
I will not hide my concern about the signs of intolerance, discrimination and xenophobia that are seen in different regions of Europe, the Pope said. These often are motivated by distrust and fear of the other, the different, the stranger.
But Im even more worried by the sad observation that these reactions are not absent from our Catholic communities, he said.
Catholics harbouring anti-immigrant sentiments need to realize that the Church spread to every continent thanks to the migration of missionaries who were convinced of the universality of the message of salvation in Jesus Christ, which is destined for men and women of every culture.
The Spirit, I am certain, will help us today to preserve an attitude of trusting openness, which will allow us to overcome every barrier and scale every wall, Pope Francis said.
Once the basic Gospel attitude of welcoming the stranger is affirmed, he said, church leaders need to look at the factors contributing to such a great sense of unease about handling the current migration crisis.
The ongoing impact of the economic crisis has been aggravated by the size and composition of the waves of migrants trying to reach Europe, he said. The receiving........

Meaning no disrespect to your wife, this has nothing to do with being a dutiful Catholic. I, while a miserable sinner, am a practicing and faithful Catholic, and I believe this Pope is 100% wrong on everything having to do with politics — especially when it comes to migrants and immigration. I also KNOW that I am on solid ground theologically that I am under no obligation to agree with anything any Pope says regarding these types of issues. The Catechism of the Catholic Church lays out broad guidelines when it comes to things such as how countries must deal with immigration. As for specific policies, there is wide latitude regarding which policies Catholic individuals may espouse.
Pope Francis at best will go down in history as in ineffective Pope because he didn’t do his JOB, which is supposed to be running the Catholic CHURCH. At worst, it will turn out that he deliberately set out to destroy the Catholic Church.
Isn’t Francis the very same pope who’s Vatican police just rousted, expelled out of their encampment at 6am?
You’re photo-shopping is most disingenuous.
Catholics who refuse to accept migrants and refugees strongly criticize pope Francis.
Creepy sicko Francis once again celebrating the rape of Europe.
“Pope Francis tear down your wall!”
Because the pope issued that statement on an airplane, not a wall.
Why don’t you photoshop some pics of Trump in a KKK robe while you’re at it.
Tear down that (vatican) wall...
The Pope is a dope.
Because this Pope tried to conceal his hypocrisy by making “that statement on an airplane and not the wall,” my photoshop - exposing his hypocrisy - and not the Pope's statement is disingenuous? Use the mind God gave you!
I wouldn't put “Trump in a KKK robe” because he never wore a KKK robe and he never said anything a KKK member would say nor did he approve of any KKK member, statements or symbols.
This Pope did say the words quoted and does live within the Vatican walls pictured - which are the essence of my photoshopped image.
If this explanation doesn't help you see beyond your mindless prior replies, don't bother replying again. My criticism of this Pope will only get much more brutal.
