Trump's Evangelical Advisers Request Meeting with Pope Francis After Vatican-Backed Criticism
Christian Today ^ | 8/7/17 | Harry Farley

Evangelical advisers to Donald Trump are requesting a meeting with Pope Francis after Vatican-backed condemnation aimed at the White House and at the political leanings of American Catholics.

It comes after a prominent Jesuit journal published a criticism of US Catholics for forming an alliance with Trump-supporting conservative evangelicals to promote a 'nostalgic dream of a theocratic type of state' and a 'xenophobic and Islamophobic vision that wants walls'.

The article in La Civiltà Cattolica accuses evangelicals and their Catholic supporters of misreading the Bible to promote conflict and warns against using anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage rhetorics for political mobilisation.

The highly critical piece allegedly received Vatican backing and prompted the request for a meeting.

Written by Johnnie Moore, an evangelical adviser to Trump and board member of the National Association of Evangelicals, the letter sent to the Vatican praises the pontiff's 'commitment to the poor' and 'efforts to build bridges and to spread the doctrine of mercy around the world'.

Moore says he is writing 'at a time of historic Christian persecution in more places than perhaps at any time in Christian history' and asks for a meeting 'to find ways in which we can cooperate on matters of great concern to us all'.

He writes: 'It's in this moment of ongoing persecution, political division and global conflict that we have also witnessed efforts to divide Catholics and Evangelicals.

Why do the evangelicals want to suck up to Satan’s Boy? Not smart.

The Spadaro-Figueroa-Bergoglio screed blew Bergoglio’s cover.

He poses as a lefty Catholic.

He is a pro-abortion, pro-sodomy atheist, a puppet of Soros and the globalist, totalitarian depopulation movement.

“The article in La Civiltà Cattolica accuses evangelicals and their Catholic supporters of misreading the Bible to promote conflict and warns against using anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage rhetorics for political mobilisation.”

Yes...God forbid that Christians should mobilize against “abortion” and “gay-marriage”. Why the Catholic Church has always been strong advocates for both!

“Written by Johnnie Moore, an evangelical adviser to Trump and board member of the National Association of Evangelicals, the letter sent to the Vatican praises the pontiff’s ‘commitment to the poor’ and ‘efforts to build bridges and to spread the doctrine of mercy around the world’.

They are committed only to the material needs of the poor. They are only interested in building bridges with secular globalists. And the “doctrine of mercy” is only a sub-set of the doctrine of Jesus Christ. To bad this Pope and Magisterium could care less about the latter doctrine.

The Catholic church used to be at least partly a force for good. Now they are just another enemy undermining America as a sovereign nation.

“sucking up??” Obviously you don’t understand their desire to be understood and to convince the Pope to become a Trump supporter. Understanding can best be realized through face to face conversation.

Everybody take a Xanax.

This had NO effect on the catholic vote for Trump and will have no effect next time.

ANY Christian of ANY denomination that puts their leaders’ words before the Bible’s is an idiot.

Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals etc. are smarter than people give them credit for.

My entire family is Roman Catholic.

My ENTIRE family of maybe 80 Italians voted for Trump.

Bible comes first folks.

I didn’t say anything about Catholics in genral. My criticisms, as always, are directed at the corrupt church organization.

I understand the sentiment. It's hard to argue against it.

But, if I may, this Pope's comments that run contrary to the teachings of Our Lord do not ipso facto represent those of the billions of Catholics. Indeed, President Obama's un-American utterances did not represent the beliefs of 300 million Americans.

In early January, a story came out that Kellyanne Conway reportedly took Donald Trump to meet Father George Rutler, the Anglican convert priest and pastor of the Church of St. Michael in Mahattan, who blessed the future president just days before his election.

Fr. Rutler is not just some average priest. He is one of the best homilists I've ever heard in the Catholic Church, a very pious man, a wonderful confessor, and not someone who will lob in softballs. I would NOT be surprised if this had some impact on President Trump, and it could have solidified his trust in Bannon as well. Indeed, it's worth nothing that Fr. Rutler released an an awesome piece on Trump's Warsaw speech.

When one gets disparaged with some of the syntax coming out of the Vatican, I am heartened by these examples of the Catholic Church, being effective, being loyal to Truth.

Never thought you did. :)

I’m just saying Thank God most know enough to look to the Bible first.

I think. :)

I’m Catholic. Who’s the Pope that he can’t be corrupt and possibly evil?

We were warned about these possibilities.

I’m a CHRISTAN first. The Bible is my go to book on how to live

Please. It is a useless move. PDJT already met and talked with this guy.

Obviously YOU don’t understand or know that Frankie is a life long hard core commie who is not going to be convinced by a group of NON Catholic evangelicals trying to make him understand DJT.

It’s a futile effort.

God also expects us to be able to discern between the hard core evil-hearted, and those who are benignly misled.

They shouldn’t hold their breath.

Francis won’t even grant a meeting with four of his orthodox cardinals who had presented him with a legitimate dubia, a dubia that was presented to him 320 days ago.

Francis prefers to meet with muslim imams and communist dictators. He’s a worldly publicity hound, typical of narcissists.

They can go pound sand.

Which is the most the RF rules allow me to say without getting the post pulled.

BUILD THE WALL!

Maybe the Vatican should do something about it’s own walls.

The hypocrisy is staggering.

The Bible is my go to book on how to live
******************************************
Fine. But I do hope you understand it was written by people hundreds of years after Jesus and was based on oral history passed down through many generations of people.

I’m not saying that the Bible doesn’t contain some good lessons; just saying that everything in the book is not to be assumed to be factual truth.

I’m pretty pragmatic.

“Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s..”

“He who is without sin...”

Jesus knew the streets, so to speak.

He knew Rome was what it was and you had to deal with it.

But only so far.

Like we are facing now.
