Bishop, “Homosexuality, if it is not a choice ..., it is a gift given by God.”[Catholic Caucus]

Bishop Antônio Carlos Cruz Santos, “Homosexuality, if it is not a choice and not a disease, it is a gift given by God.”

“Our prejudices can not perceive the gift of God, just as it happened to the blacks, who were not seen as people because of prejudice.”

— Bishop Antônio Carlos Cruz Santos on homosexuality —

Antônio Carlos Cruz Santos, the Bishop of Caicó, Brazil.

Bishop Antônio Carlos Cruz Santos, just the other day gave a homily about homosexuality.  He begins it by lamenting the “high suicide rate among homosexuals” and proceeds to tell the sad story of a homosexual who blames himself for his mother’s death.  This anonymous homosexual revealed to his parents his sinful proclivity and shortly thereafter his mother was diagnosed with cancer from which she died.  Antônio Carlos Cruz Santos makes the allusion that she had been brainwashed by society to reject homosexuality and if she had accepted her son’s homosexuality that she would still be alive.  He then goes on to say, “the gospel demands love” no matter the person’s behavior and “the door is always open, God never close the door to anyone”.   He continues stating that we need “to take a leap in Gospel wisdom to overcome ... prejudices against our homosexual brothers”.  And now we get to the heart of of homily:
“From the perspective of faith when you look at homosexuality, you can’t say it’s a choice.  Choice is one thing that you freely choose and no one chooses orientation.  One day the person finds out with this or that orientation.  Choice will be the way you will live your orientation.  Whether in a dignified, ethical, or in a promiscuous way.  But promiscuity can be lived in any of the orientations one has.  So since it is not choice, since it is not an option, since the World Health Organization, since the 90’s no longer considers it as an illness, from the perspective of faith, we have only one answer.  If it is not a choice, if it is not an illness, from the perspective of faith, it can only be a gift.  It is given by God.  This is a gift: it is given by God.  There’s no other way!  If it is not a choice, if it is not a disease, it is a gift, it is given by God.”

Antônio Carlos Cruz Santos ends his homily with the example of Francis quoting him “If a person is homosexual and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge?”  And follows that up with the command Francis gave, “Don’t marginalize them but integrate them into [the Church]” and how “mercy” is the most important thing in the church the catechism teaches this.  Lastly, he retells the story of Francis’ private audience with Neria ‘Diego’ Lejárraga (a female who believes she is a man) and her fiance.

In conclusion, Antônio Carlos Cruz Santos misrepresents the teachings of the Church — through its catechism and Bible — concerning one of the four ‘Sins which cry out to Heaven for vengeance’.  It’s enough to make us at Call Me Jorge... wonder if he is of the homosexual inclination himself.  Anyway you slice it, Antônio Carlos Cruz Santos is just preaching what his boss, Francis, believes and it isn’t Catholic!

The Archbishop needs to read and believe his Catechism.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

How is it the devil has been so successful? And then this bishop perpetuates the confusion.

Actually, the attraction to same sex persons is not usually chosen, but imposed by abuse, or bad parenting or many other stimuli in the world.

What is a choice is whether you act on the attraction. If you choose to act, that is sin.

homosexuality is a choice....you can choose to belong to the mass of people in society, conforming, or you can do what the hell you want, but don't expect to ever "fit" in....

we all have burdens...some have terrible burdens....

terrible crosses to bear....

and let's not even think about biology....the survival of the fittest means THOSE WHO CAN PRODUCE OFFSPRING....the sexual urge is nothing more than a means to an end for a species to continue...

so I love my relatives that proclaim to be homosexual....both sides of our families....

but I know that they are more apt to have disease, suicidal thoughts and actions, domestic violence in their lives, drug abuse and alcohol abuse...

so am I suppose to be happy about their choices?.....

Probably another reason why Al Gore says he could join the Catholic Church headed by Pope Francis....along with Francis agreeing with Algore on human created glowbull warming.

How I long for Pope Benedict XVI.

Is a bad leg or blindness also a “gift of God”? I recall Jesus working miracles to cure the ill and lame.

And for the record there has been at least one lesbian couple who conspired to conceive a child that was deaf (by deliberate choice of theirs).

Let’s legitimize them all and then we’ll have no need for preachers. They are talking themselves out of a job imo.

That is evil out right. Are they not using the Bible any longer?

Probably use it as much as those who think ALL homosexuals are that way by choice and that folks who have remarried must be denied communion with God.....

“Adultery, if it is not a choice and not a disease, it is a gift given by God.”

“Stealing, if it is not a choice and not a disease, it is a gift given by God.”

“Murder, if it is not a choice and not a disease, it is a gift given by God.”

None of those make any more sense. God gives us unhealthy temptations, not always the same temptations, but we all have one or more weaknesses. We have a choice whether we give in to those desires or not. I choose to the best of my limited ability to follow God’s Word over my urges.

There are bad humans in every church. If you leave because of this you’ll have to do as the protestants and start your own! That solution hasn’t worked out so well, either.

Pope Francis started this with “Who am I to judge”. He knew what he had started when he said it. It was deliberate!
