For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either (1 Timothy 6:7).
Temporal concerns must not crowd out the believers focus on eternal things.
In Charles Dickenss memorable story A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge learns through a series of dreams that life consists of far more important values than his selfish preoccupation with business and finance. In essence, Scrooge learns a lesson that reminds us of Jesus sobering question, For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? (Mark 8:36). Dickenss story also dovetails well with todays verse, which reminds us how a temporal focus on greed robs us of an eternal perspective.
People who are enslaved to money-love spend all their time dealing with what is locked into time and space. They overlook and ignore that which has eternal value. Also, such people seem oblivious to the warning that riches are not forever (Prov. 27:24) and to the old expression that hearses do not pull trailers.
The Old Testament further instructs us of the fleeting nature of money and material possessions. Job said, Naked I came from my mothers womb, and naked I shall return there (1:21; see also Eccles. 5:15).
Jesus taught the disciples much about how foolish it is to focus on temporal wealth (see Matt. 6:19-21). Perhaps His sternest warning is in the parable of the rich fool (Luke 12:15-21). In it God condemns the smug self-confidence the man placed in his abundant crops: But God said to him, You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared? So is the man who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God (vv. 20-21).
A scenario like the rich mans is much more probable in todays materialistic societies. Perhaps thats why Jesus parable is still so relevant and a potent reminder that any obsession with temporal riches, which causes us to miss Gods eternal riches, is the height of folly.
Suggestions for Prayer
Pray that today, in the midst of your normal responsibilities, God would keep your primary focus an eternal one.
For Further Study
Read Acts 19:18-41.
How did many of the new converts demonstrate their commitment to the eternal over the temporal? In contrast, what did the anxiety of some of the unbelieving Ephesians lead to? Why? How was the disturbance finally brought to an end?
Studying God’s Word ping
I’m Catholic and really enjoy listening to him in the morning on the radio. I wish priests did more bible studies as part of their sermons.
He addresses a lot of things I think about regarding the bible. Ex: if the story of Noah is false, why would Jesus make mention? Same with Abel?
Gives me lots to think about.
And I really like Msgr Pope.
So you see his threads that Salvation posts in the RF?

Dumb as a stump.
Money buys fun. Fun is fun. Hard work yields money.
Theft or graft yields guilt.
Good acts yield grace. Bad acts yield condemnation.
Honestly, who made you the judge juror and executioner?
Did God tell you you get to decide?
You are a sanctimonious fraud and a jerk. People like you ran the Spanish Inquisition.
Charming as usual.
And then you go on to declare your opinion here.
You are a sanctimonious fraud and a jerk. People like you ran the Spanish Inquisition.
That's a perfect example of being someone's judge, jury, and executioner.
Physician, heal thyself.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
And how does one take hold of that eternal life?
Through faith in Jesus Christ.
God tells us in Scripture how to do that.
Romans 10:9-13 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

He told us what he wanted us to know and what we needed to know to become wise for salvation.
2 Timothy 3:14-17 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Explain please: Why did Jesus think God forsake him. It is a tenant of your faith.
Remember the trinity.
Longhand please missy.
David penned it first in Psalms 22. Christ quoted it dying on the cross. Christ never addressed the Heavenly Father as ‘my God’. Psalms 22 was prophecy fulfilled by Christ.
OK so it was God why hath thou forsaken me? Fine. Explain please how the holy trinity is valid?
The ‘trinity’ is God (Heavenly Father), Christ, (tree of life) kinsman redeemer, that took this flesh journey (Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;) and belief in Him promises everlasting life.
The ‘Holy Spirit’, also called The Comforter was given us after Christ returned to the Heavenly Father... It is through this ‘Comforter’ that one gains understanding from the Word and comfort as we live this flesh journey.
1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
2 O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
8 He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.
10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.
11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
19 But be not thou far from me, O Lord: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
21 Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.
22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
23 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.
24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.
25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.
27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
28 For the kingdom is the Lord's: and he is the governor among the nations.
29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.
30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.
6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
So God was a worm, reproached and despised?
Explain this whole holy trinity thing.
Make sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
