Americans know that in 1492 Christopher Columbus "sailed the ocean blue," but how many know that in the same year the heroic Catholic monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella conquered the Moors in Grenada? Americans would also probably recognize 1588 as the year of the defeat of the Spanish Armada by Francis Drake and the rest of Queen Elizabeths pirates. It was a tragedy for the Catholic kingdom of Spain and a triumph for the Protestant British Empire, and the defeat determined the kind of history that would one day be taught in American schools: Protestant British history.
As a result, 1571, the year of the battle of Lepanto, the most important naval contest in human history, is not well known to Americans. October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, celebrates the victory at Lepanto, the battle that saved the Christian West from defeat at the hands of the Ottoman Turks.

Thank the Catholic Church and the Battle of Lepanto dedicated to Mary, for being the reason you have not been born into Islam or enslaved by it. Cause and effect. If God did not give Constantine a vision of the cross, then the edict of Milan would not have been written and the Church would not have grown from a mustard seed into the biggest tree, therefore Islam would have overrun the world.

They enlisted the help of the Jews to get rid of the Muslims. When that was done, they enlisted Tomás de Torquemada to get rid of the Jews.

So many close calls in history with pushing back the Muslims. Charles Martel...Tours...also pivotal.
We are at a pivotal time in history now, also. The Muslims are winning in Europe and they don’t even need a sword this time.

Miguel de Cervantes (future author of ‘Don Quixote’) fought in that battle.

Yes, 1492 is when the Kingdom of Spain issued and edict to expel all Jews from the Iberian peninsula and the Spanish Inquisition isn't exactly a bright spot on Spain and the Church...

God would have used something else to stop the muslim hordes if the Catholic church weren't around.
He's not dependent on them or beholden to them.
It's the gospel that's the mustard seed, not Catholicism.

Under Sharia Law in Spain.
Jews were basically 2nd class citizens and Christians 3rd class citizens. In over 500 years of brutal and misery of the islamic occupation.
When the Moors were finally expelled - people were looking for payback.
Just like we saw against Nazi collaborators in France in WWII in modern history.

The Inquisition was an ecclesiastical court. It had no jurisdiction over Jews.

That is happening in Western Europe. Eastern Europe remembers their history in regards to the Muslims so they do not put up with this nonsense.

I live in Almuñécar, Spain and from my terrace I can see the cross on Peñon del Santo, the rock at the old harbor entrance, that marks the defeat of the Arabs, their surrender at Almuñécar, and the beginning of Christian rule in 1489. The Alhambra Palace at Granada was surrendered in 1492 and was used by Ferdinand and Isabella when Columbus came for sponsorship of his voyage to discover America. So the battle of Lepanto may have been important but there would have been no battle at all if Granada hadn't been won first.
Granada War
To: deadrock
That’s an oversimplification; many Christians felt the Jewish population was in cahoots with the Arabs.

That didn't stop him torturing Jews to be sure they really did convert to Christianity so they could avoid being expelled from Spain.
"With energy and connections, it was inevitable that Torquemada should rise to power. After studying theology at the Dominican convent of San Pablo in Valladolid, he became prior of Santa Cruz convent in Segovia. He also became confessor to the royal court.
There he whispered in the ears of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella that many Jewish converts were secretly practicing Judaic rites while outwardly pretending to be Christians."
Well documented here and else where.

Then why were Jews given the choice to option to convert to Christianity or get out of the country. Why would they give people who are in cahoots with the enemy the option?
Is Torquemada torturing Jews to ensure their conversion to Christianity was not an act an oversimplifications too?
