1941- At 7:55 local time in Hawaii, a date that will live in infamy, nearly 200 Japanese aircraft attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, long considered the US Gibraltar of the Pacific. The raid, which lasted little more than one hour, left nearly 3,800 dead. Nearly the entire US Pacific Fleet was at anchor there and few ships escaped damage. Several were sunk or disabled, while 200 aircraft on the ground were destroyed.
The attack on Pearl Harbor brought about immediate US entry into World War II, a Declaration of War being requested by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, carried live on radio, and approved in a record time by the Congress, December 8, 1941, only a few hours after President Roosevelt address to a joint meeting of Congress.
December 11, Germany and Italy, in a pact with the Japanese, declared war against the United States. Misinterpreting the anti-war sentiment in the U.S., they thought we would not want to enter two separate wars, particularly with a decimated U.S. Navy and would leave Asia and Australia for Japan to conquer. They thought American's weak and without the will, particularly without the weapons to fight back.
In reality, Former Admiral Chester Nimitz saw three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make:
Sunday, December 7th, 1941--Admiral Chester Nimitz was attending a concert in Washington D.C. He was paged and told there was a phone call for him. When he answered the phone, it was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the phone. He told Admiral Nimitz that he (Nimitz) would now be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet.
After making plans, organizing his staff, Admiral Nimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command of the Pacific Fleet. He landed at Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1941. There was such a spirit of despair, dejection and defeat--you would have thought the Japanese had already won the war. On Christmas Day, 1941, Adm. Nimitz was given a boat tour of the destruction wrought on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Big sunken battleships and navy vessels cluttered the waters every where you looked.
As the tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat asked, "Well Admiral, what do you think after seeing all this destruction?" Admiral Nimitz's reply shocked everyone within the sound of his voice. Admiral Nimitz said, "The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make, or God was taking care of America. Which do you think it was?"
Shocked and surprised, the young helmsman asked, "What do mean by saying the Japanese made the three biggest mistakes an attack force ever made?" Nimitz explained:
Mistake number one : The Japanese attacked on Sunday morning. Nine out of every ten crewmen of those ships were ashore on leave. If those same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk--we would have lost 38,000 men instead of 3,800.
Mistake number two : When the Japanese saw all those battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away sinking those battleships, they never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships. If they had destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of those ships to America to be repaired. As it is now, the ships are in shallow water and can be raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry docks, and we can have them repaired and at sea by the time we could have towed them to America. And I already have crews ashore anxious to man those ships.
Mistake number three : Every drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war is in top of the ground storage tanks five miles away over that hill. One attack plane could have strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel supply. That's why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make or God was taking care of America.
Anyway you look at it--Admiral Nimitz was able to see a silver lining in a situation and circumstance where everyone else saw only despair and defeatism.
HOLY FATHER, Your children feel protected knowing that You watch over our nation, our leaders, and our military. As we begin to once again open our eyes, we see the signs that You have not forgotten us. That You will never forget us. With eyes wide open we realize that all is written and must be played in Your time. Please help us, more impatient children, to understand that. We at times seem to forget. When we see Your work around us and fail to praise you, forgive us, Father, we are only mortals . We need to be reminded that when darkness surrounds us, You are there to hold our hands and guide us through the maze of confusion and despair.
We pray in the name of CHRIST.
Amen.

We come again to pray for the great battle going on in Raqqa.....this victory means so much for the entire world as you know. We thank you for how far they have gone thus far in riding Raqqa of ISIS but it is far from over...... So we ask that you continue to be with each and everyone there fighting against this hoard of evil that has made Raqqa it’s stronghold. Keep the citizens as safe as possible during this storm cloud that has come upon them.....and most of all Lord let hearts look to you ..the one and only true God as they push toward victory there.
In Jesus Name ...and that His name would be glorified among all men there ...amen.
In my opinion there was no "or" to it. God was taking care of America when the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make.
Thanks for reminding us of the many lives that were lost in WWII to defend our religious freedom. . .a freedom that is taken for granted and a war that this generation has no clue about. Both of my parents were WWII veterans and we were raised with love of God and country . . . for that I will be forever grateful.
Agreeing in prayer.
Thank you for the Pearl Harbor story and beautiful prayer.
Heavenly Father, our nation is full of moral deterioration expressed through corruption, lying, violence, and greed and it grieves us. The growing indifference to the good news of salvation saddens us. The break-up of marriages, families, and other cherished relationships hurts. These and other sorrows have stirred in us a new hunger for God.
Our prayer is that our nation turns from its prodigal ways and comes home to a loving Father.
Father, you have loved us since forever, You call our name. But because something has damaged our hearing, we keep walking, unaware that its Jesus calling us, calling us to turn around, calling us to You.
Lord give us eyes to see and ears to hear.
Amen!
Amen.
Amen.
Having been to pearl Harbor a number of times, I can see Admiral Nimitz’s points exactly.
Praise the Lord.
Prayers for President Donald Trump, that this evil spirit operating from the corrupt managed mainstream news outlets and from corrupt Democrat and Republican leaders will be rebuked and that it will be made visible for all to see,
Prayers that sleeping believers will wake up and know what has transpired around them while they slept,
Oh Father God, You always take care of America. Though we have strayed, You have remained faithful. Father God, as a nation may we be led to repent. May we be repulsed by our wickedness. May we seek to serve You.
We lift up those in positions of influence - the media, entertainment, education - who lead impressionable minds down the dark path. May their agenda be shattered. May our culture no longer be at war against You. But may we once again, become One Nation Under God.
Father God, we also lift up the new FBI Director and the James Comey hearings. May Your Hand be over these. May the world know Your Truth and Your Wisdom.
Amen
Lord, if it is Your Will, may ISIS and all the terrorist groups be squashed.
May Your Light be magnified.
Amen
Amen
May we awake from our slumber and call His name.
Father, let us not forget those who have come before us and given so much for You and this nation. Embed their memory in our minds to understand that due only to them we have kept the freedoms You have given all mankind.
LORD, give us eyes to see and ears to hear. Stir Your fire burning in our hearts that we once again search for and find YOUR work in all that surrounds us. And, when we do, let us praise YOU once again and thank YOU for our blessings.
Prayed in the Name of JESUS CHRIST
Amen.
Amen.
Joining with you all in prayer, praise and thanksgiving!
Amen
Amen to all.
Amen. I’ve thought often of the miracle of all of that fuel, though so close by, not even being hit, by the Japanese.
Thank you for the reminders about the Sunday morning significance and the dry docks.
Joining all, in all prayers and praises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
