Would have been nice to have a practicing Catholic as ambassador My thought as well. Or at least someone who was not an adulteress.

Callista Gingrich IS a practicing Catholic. CG is married to someone who does not have an uncomplicated personal history, which makes her not an imperfect pick for this role; I do get that. However, it is inaccurate to assert that CG is not a practicing Catholic.

A far as I’ve been able to determine from the press coverage, Callista and Newt are both practicing Catholics united in Catholic matrimony.
They lived in flagrant adultery “back when,” but apparently a serious and sincere process of repentance and confession; and the formal annulment of prior null unions has got them to a place of lawful honorable wedlock. They now live straight and in the Sacraments. I hope we’re all OK with that.

Why do you say this? Newt was a widower (if I have my facts straight.) Also, I know you have heard of annulments.

I have a friend (we are both Catholic) who said the bigger problem with this pick is that Newt is a freemason. I was not aware of that.
Can anyone confirm this? There is mixed information on the internet, mostly stating that he is not a freemason.
Thank you everyone.

She is a practicing Catholic. Yes, she’s sinned and has been very publicly shamed for it. Since then, it seems to me she’s done all the steps possible to repent and make amends. She even inspired her husband to convert to Catholicism.
Remember, Christ had great love for Mary Magdalen and even allowed her to be the fist person to see Him after He rose.
