It sure is easy to get confused these days. One moment #Resistance against offensive politics and policies is brave. Bold. Daring. The next? “That is crazy talk.”
At least that’s the charge leveled when conservatives resist liberal policies, such as when the archbishop of Kansas City, Joseph Naumann, announced last week that the Archdiocese had decided to end its relationship with the Girl Scouts of America. As he put it:
To follow Jesus and his Gospel will often require us to be counter-cultural. With the promotion by Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) of programs and materials reflective of many of the troubling trends in our secular culture, they are no longer a compatible partner in helping us form young women with the virtues and the values of the Gospel.
Instead, parishes in the Archdiocese of Kansas City will partner with American Heritage Girls, a Christian organization and a “much better fit for our parishes,” according to the Statement issued by the Archbishop.
The response from the Left? “Pedophile priests.” I kid you not. Here’s the opener from Hemant Mehta’s piece at Patheos, ridiculing the archbishop’s decision to transition parishes from the Girl Scouts to American Heritage Girls: “The Archdiocese of Kansas City (in Kansas) is finally taking action against the people who routinely ignore the Catholic Church’s stated values. So say goodbye to all those pedophile priests.” Well, not really, he explains, say goodbye instead to the Girl Scouts.
What a clever ad hominem attack! I’ve never heard that one before. Well, not really.

First the Left destroys the Boy Scouts and now the Girl Scouts. The Left infects our respectable institutions with their politics and destroys the good of America. Reading about Planned Parenthood’s involvement with the Girl Scouts has turned many away from that organization. Remember when youth institutions were apolitical? The Left is quickly destroying EVERYTHING that was good in this country.
Actually you have that reversed. They destroyed the Girl scouts first then the Boy scouts. People are just now ditching the GSA, not sure why but they went south years before the BSA ever did.
I agree, the GSA went south a long time ago. I only allowed my girls to join for a little while, but after the rubbish they brought home from some scout meetings, they were out.
The GS has been firmly in the hands of the left for years. The BS joined recently. Two formerly great institutions ruined by the hate-America left.
The GSA has been going downhill for decades. Quite a while ago, I believe it was someone on National Review Online, wrote an article about the Girl Scouts. It was shocking. So, I can only imagine that they are worse now. Every left-wing, progressive idea, no matter how age inappropriate, is pushed by the Girl Scouts.
Literature stating that the girls should find their ultimate self identity in running business or other high level positions in commerce or government. That anything to do with family or relationships was not progressive and did not fulfill the true needs of women and girls.
There was other stuff but I cannot remember (this was quite a few years ago). I do recall that my girls were displeased with the boys going camping and other such stuff, while they were in a room formulating business plans and organization charts.
That is terrible, Girl Scout camp is what is the most fun. No camp then to heck with it.
The Left needs to ideologically poison all groups.
The Girl Scouts were destroyed long before the Boy Scouts. The GSA took 'God' out of their pledge. You can pray to a rock, or rock star
I never liked the Girl Scouts. When KofC has its Tootsie Roll Drive wherein we collect money for local orgs that help retard folks, our best collection points were the front doors of Wal Mart and several grocery stores. When WM moved to curtail charitable orgs due to some political and lawsuit pressure we found other venues. The Girl Scouts now monopolize the WalMarts because they have political power. They get H&HS offices and Legislators to threaten Wal Mart. Girl Scouts is an NGO with all that implies in modern usage.
I have heard about another group, Frontier Girls, which is trying to be a more conservative or Christian replacement for the Girl Scouts.
We moved our girls into more active Awana and Kings Kids involvement, with a lot of local sports teams to throw in some exertion. Two of my girls were in great demand for the Sierra Vista basketball teams.

The Girl Scouts are a fund raiser fro Planned Parenthood.
Also, they are not affiliated with the BSA at all. Never have been.
The “Heritage Girls” are the female counter to the BSA and was started by Lord Baden Powell’s sister.
Catholic schools ditched the Girl Scouts long ago. My daughters were in American Heritage Girls 10 years ago.
This is thirty years too late. The Girl Scouts went far left a long, long time ago.
