If anyone thinks this is a new thing, they’re in for a rude awakening.
My cousin’s husband (who’m I despise) got TWO annulments (both marriages produced children) and he and my cousin got married in the church lol.
Hard to be taken seriously when you allow stuff like that.
This was THIRTY years ago. Nothing new.
Anything’s for sale when men are in charge.
The production of children is irrelevant.
So, someone you despise got annulments that you disapprove of!
Who died and made you God?
You’re a blind idiot :)
that’s tough being both :)
stick your head in the sand deeper and defend our faith NO MATTER WHAT
LONG LIVE FRANCIS!! :)
A lesson in how to write a check.
I forget how much they charged me, not that much.
I hope that thing is buried in some vault and never sees the light of day again. It's embarrasing to think about it now.
You seem to be quite the expert. How much?
not to worry, probably nobody read it.
(reminds of an old joke about the 9th year PhD student who, exasperated, scribbled as his dissertation footnote 6,999 on page 1415 of his disseration draft, “hey, old f*rt professor, I bet you aren’t even still reading this!?”
and the draft came back a week later,
“Yes I am, you flunk!”
but in your case, I really think you don’t have to worry. unless you become RICH and then maybe someone might dig it out of the vault to try to motivate you to contribute for the new cathedral?
smile smile
seriously, let it be. its done with. relax.
That was a cute story. My friend of sorts went to Catholic school and wrote a paper about nuns and sex. The school had a fit, his father had a fit and put him in military school.
Last I talked to him which was a long time ago now, he was a total unbeliever and had been starting I don't know when, maybe never.
The church struggles for money. I never felt like they put the squeeze to me but I have seen it with other people, calling them asking them to up the ante. And two and rarely 3 collections in one mass. One priest said if parents wanted to have their kids in the school, they had better start coming to mass.
“The production of children is irrelevant.”
Though later rescinded by the Vatican, Ted Kennedy’s annulment despite fathering 3 children is the example that first comes to mind.
What does that have to do with anything?
Having children proves that the plumbing works, not that the consent to the marriage was legitimate. Children are conceived through rape, after all; I hope we would all agree that there's certainly no valid matrimonial consent there.
Given that, I'm not sure why you would jump to the conclusion that your cousin's husband annulments basically amounted to bribery.
15 years ago was the year the Pope decided Annulments should be without charge. Here in Texas, I was given pages and pages of questions to answer, then more pages and pages when they read the first set and realized I had had a convalidation.
After I moved to NY with new hubbie, we volunteered to help with annulment writing. I was really bothered by the process of “writing your story” starting with a blank page - so much that we withdrew. That process was terribly oppressive. This was the process my husband had been through - just doesn’t HAVE to be that bad.
Fifty years ago in 1968 ...before Vatican II was in full force and before "Saint" JPII codified the Second Vatican Council by promulgating his 1983 New Code of Canon Law which added new psychological impediments (among others) to valid marriages.... the TOTAL number of annulments granted in the US was 338. Between 1984 and 1994 638,000 annulments were granted.
All before Francis.
Good Lord!!! I must have read the before and after number wrong!!
Let me go get my glasses!
No, Sir, you did not.
Someone took great affront to what I wrote.
I wonder if that person knows about these numbers.
I’ve never seen such a staggering contrast.
Yes, I know. It will be interesting to see how things develop on a couple of threads, but I am returning to my Lenten fast from posting.....
God Bless....
Make that heretical men and I have no issue. The Second Vatican Council was replete with heretical men. And if there weren’t enough at that time, a great many more were aded since.
Yet was to me is truly amazing, is that while Catholic annulments are rarely rejected (they are on occasion), the pope (in his Amoris Laetitia) is arguing that an annulment may not even be necessary for one to re-marry. can the Second Coming really be that far away?
God is perfect. That’s not up for debate, I certainly agree.
Men, not so much!
And you’re right. At this rate, annulments won’t be necessary soon.
And TRUST me, there is NO WAY my cousin’s husband deserved two annulments.
But since mental health or lack thereof was added at VII, the wives would have had a good case!!
