NASA confirmed the discovery of seven new exoplanets not too far from Earth, bringing humanity one step closer to finding other livable planets and, possibly, extraterrestrial life. Does Catholicism have the means to survive such a discovery? The pope, experts and theologians say yes. In a highly anticipated press conference on February 22, NASA declared that seven Earth-sized planets have been discovered orbiting a relatively close dwarf star. For space enthusiasts, trekkies and stargazers, the possibility of finding alien life forms just got one step closer to reality.
The tiny salmon-colored star is unassumingly called Trappist-1. Held tightly in its gravitational embrace are seven planets, that due to their proximity to the cold star might have the perfect requirements to host the primary ingredient of life: water.

If God created us in His image, does that imply that extraterrestrials will somehow look similar?
God created snakes and mosquitoes also. What makes you think extraterrestials could be anything more?
its hard to believe that Hes incapable of creating anything He wants.
That way lies a "robust view of God's sovereignty".
If there’s anyone out there, God made them too. Might be why Jesus is taking so long to come back - He has to go and die for the sins of aliens as well as ours......
“And, small star == narrow “life zone”.”
If life always requires the same things we do, then that is right. But how do we possibly know it is right when we only have one example of life so far, us?

God reasons and thinks. So in that way any rational sentient being has at least that aspect of God, if not the form of man. So I think they could probably join the Church if they wanted, but maybe a better question would be could they become clergy?

Of all that the one thing which might stand out is the "immortal soul" part. But that's just my interpretation. Other than that I can't think of a reason why any entity capable of interstellar travel would bother to stop by.
I love these mind-game questions. I guess if we ever discover such life, we will get our answer.
Seems like there are no ET’s around when you have a bible believer mentioning the name of Jesus in the room. His name has dominion over all. Lots of scare flics are about clueless victims that are hunted and haunted by unseen forces. When Hollywood finally puts two and two together about Jesus and primacy the movies will get better.
What I find telling is that all “channeled” communications from beyond (not including Scripture here) preach, in unison, the serpent’s lie “...you shall be as God, knowing good and evil..”
“I’m of the opinion aliens are in actuality Fallen Angels, or demons.”
Ditto. Certainly their imagined (through cinema, books, channeling, etc.) messages are satanic, with New Age gobbledygook.
Without a Biblical framework for viewing the world—this comes as a by product of salvation, an openness to God’s revealed Word—there is NO WAY to test the spirits.
After all, if Adam and Eve are only a fairy tale, why not have "original sin" affect space aliens?
The serpent’s lie is “The Lie”.
Most folks fall for it easily too.
I believe it was C.S. Lewis who asked, if there were extraterrestrial beings somehow unaffected by the Fall, why would God want them getting in touch with US?
Simply put.
Revelation 12
12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
Nice 40k pic. I’m addicted myself. The Emperor protects...
Well put!
The Bible is completely silent on life on other planets. ALL was created by God. End of discussion
C.S. Lewis was just another classical chrstian "theistic evolutionist."
Besides, why populate planets in this universe when He could be running an almost infinite number of other worlds and dimensions altogether?
Sorry to use C.S. again (I read a lot of him when I was younger), but “other worlds” are “worlds God could have made, but didn’t”.
We do only KNOW about this one, but as I said above thread the claimed utterances from beyond and the fantasies evoked about them from here (Earth), are firmly in line with the serpent’s Lie as revealed in Genesis. That is a faith position and I take it!
