The Bible makes it very clear that babies and children do not go to hell...even if their parents are wicked.
Don’t you have to be baptized to be welcomed into the Lord’s eternal kingdom?
God knows more about us than we know ourselves. Even the hairs on our head are numbered.
Whose children were they ?
Deuteronomy 1:39 And the little ones that you said would be taken captive, your children who do not yet know good from badthey will enter the land. I will give it to them and they will take possession of it.
Isaiah 7:15 He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,
So, how old is a child that can eat curds and honey? The verse above refers to the age of Jesus, when he will choose the right. According to Judiasm, this is about 12-13 years old. This is the Hebrew age of accountability. Is this God’s age of accountability? If the prophecy in Isaiah is true...then children baptized or not should be under God’s grace.
The troubling part is in our modern world and thinking, the age of accountability seems to be much younger.
If that were the case the thief on the cross next to Christ wouldn’t be with Christ the day in paradise.
Only if they have to live in liberal households.
Thank you for the replies! I learn so much from fine FReepers more knowledgeable in such matters.
The thief on the cross next to Christ wasn't baptized and Jesus said he would be in paradise with him that day.
How does your understanding square with this biblical fact?
FReegards!
Yes, we’ve already discussed that but thanks for saying it again.
My understanding is Calvinists believe theyd do to heaven if they are preordained. Catholics believe they go to perfect peace in Limbo where they may eventually go to heaven. Evangelicals believe they go to heaven because they believe in an age of accountability. Im not certain what Lutheran believe officially though.
Lutherans believe that children are no different than anyone else. Believers are saved, non-believers are unsaved. We also believe that infants and children can believe, even if they don’t understand (and clearly can’t articulate); and the same way that adults do, by hearing the Word and being adopted in the waters of baptism. Remember, the first believer in Jesus apart from Mary and Joseph was an unborn child.
