Russian Experts Will Work in Palestine to Save the Oak of Mamre Mentioned in Bible

Moscow, October 24, Interfax - Works on conserving the Oak of Mamre from decay are conducted in the representation of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Hevron (the West bank of the Jordan river).

Experts of the National Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences The Nikitsky Botanic Garden, St. Petersburg Forestry University, and Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod are attracted to participate in the work.

The Oak of Mamre is mentioned in the Bible, according to which the Holy Trinity visited Abraham near the tree.

The experts will treat the tree with special material protecting it from decay, illnesses and pests. The process is complicated as the majority of materials are brought from abroad - from Russia, Finland and other European countries. Works are often suspended as supplies of new parties of liquids are delayed due to the customs formalities.

In result of construction works held in the 1970s, when a wooden ring in form of a chalice was build around the oak, its roots started dying. Fifteen years after it the tree withered.

In 1997, a small sprig started growing near the withered oak and one of the tasks is not to inflict harm to this young tree in process of the treating the old oak.

Palestine? There’s been no country or jurisdiction by that name since 1948. I wonder where this tree could be?

Palestine does not and hasnever existed. The ttle to the land was given to the Jews, period. The Nations never had title to it, even though the title ‘Palestine’ was given to the Land of Israel by the Balfour Declaration. However, it never belonged to the French or British to give that land to anyone.

When I worked for the American Embassy in Tel Aviv I was sent to work at the American Consulate (defacto Pali Emb) in Jerusalem. On one of those visits, I was told that the Consulate Grounds, or adjacently had The tomb of Lazarus which is under American control unavailable to the public. What I was told deeply offended me, I did not pursue the matter. The Holy Church they are referring to is in J-rue proper.

The Nativity Church in Bethlehem is the site of his birth and just down the street is Milk Grotto or Manger where Mary and Joseph took Jesus. Both are under Pali control in Bethlehem.

the Jerusalem consulate is indeed the American embassy to “Palestine.” I’ve been past there many times and, as an American, I hate having to walk by and know that my tax dollars are paying the salary of their (Arab)”guards.” And Christian access to Bethlehem? Obviously of no importance to our current President. I wonder why.
