Is the Jesus of Mormonism the Jesus of the Bible?

James White dialogs with Alma Allred.
James White is a Christian apologist and founded Alpha and Omega Ministries (http://www.aomin.org/).
Alma Allred is a Mormon apologist and an LDS Institute teacher (http://byteline.blogspot.com/).
This event took place on July 15, 2016. It was organized by Christ Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City (http://www.gospelutah.org/). A special thanks to Jason Wallace.
I know you don’t think the Apostle Paul was recommending Zeus in Romans 10:30.
So, Paul was talking about Jesus. That’s pretty certain, don’t you think?
Again, which Jesus. There are a lot of different Jesus’ running around so you have to be sure you have the right one. Even Satan believed in who Jesus is/was. You should check into what the Jesus of the Mormon’s is.
From its beginning LDS announced its complete difference from and even hostility to normative Christian faith. See Joseph Smith where he states that all Christian sects are an “abomination” to God, according to whatever beings these were that “appeared” to him:
18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.
20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, Never mind, all is wellI am well enough off. I then said to my mother, I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true. It seems as though the adversary was aware, at a very early period of my life, that I was destined to prove a disturber and an annoyer of his kingdom; else why should the powers of darkness combine against me? Why the opposition and persecution that arose against me, almost in my infancy?

You are asking if he believes Romans 10:13, I ask if you believe Galatians? Do you think those Judaizers Paul condemned failed to call on the name of the Lord? They merely wanted to add one thing to the gospel of grace—circumcision—and it was enough for Paul to say let them be accursed. He warned about those coming with another gospel.
I understand the impulse to be inclusive, but every one of us is one heartbeat from eternity. Even though it may be upsetting, it is much more loving to tell people the truth while they can find and believe on the real Christ Jesus.
Your posts are giving me the warm fuzzies. Which is rare on FR, lol.
No.
“Mormons believe in Jesus the Son of the Almighty Father.”
Mormons believe Jesus was a created spirit-being that later became a god. This is heresy.
Do you think the Apostle John was writing about Satan in John 3:16?
I don’t think you do.
Since the Mormon’s believe that their God is in human flesh like we are and have many proof texts from the OT to prove it, I’ve always referred them to Psalm 91:4 ...
Love my brothers and sisters in the OPC!
Nope, I don’t. However again, who is the Jesus of the Mormons?
Careful now. The same person (Sidney Rigdon) who wrote doctrine for the mormons also wrote doctrine for the Campbellites(Church of Christ). The CofC loves to use the number system.
Which "Father" would that be then?
Pinging elsie
“Depart from me ye workers of iniquity. I never knew you!”
That’s a fine point. Moslems believe in Jesus. But they utterly mischaracterize his nature an divinity. I wouldn’t call them Christians.
Paul had the council of Jerusalem in Acts 15 verify that the Judaizers weren’t even preaching the gospel in the first place.
So, the gospel is not “circumcision + Jesus”.
The gospel “whoever believes in HIM shall not perish...”
And then God is able to finish the work which He began in you. “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Php 1:6
Yup.
They are spiritual brothers, according to the LDS.
AND God had physical relations with Mary, and that’s where Jesus came from.
My question had to do with the Jesus of John 3:16.
The Jesus of Mormonism is not the Jesus we know. Their Jesus went off to Kolob, iirc.
But the Jesus of John 3:16 is living, and word of God is powerful to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb 4:12
