Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

John and James were naturally indignant that the Samaritans wanted no part of their Message. But, to suggest "calling down fire from heaven" to destroy the Samaritans missed the WHOLE POINT of Jesus coming to Earth. Perhaps because they were still awestruck by the Transfiguration, and the Vision of Moses and Elijah (Both of Whom DID call fire down from heaven!), they could not understand how ANYONE could reject the Message, and not be consumed in a fiery conflagration for NOT doing so. The response from Jesus was a rebuke, which both John and James richly deserved. And perhaps we all do, if we attempt to call down cursed on our enemies.

The three Synoptic Gospels continue onward with the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. Though they differ in details, they tell the same story. Tomorrow we will begin the same story, but in John's own words. He tells the story differently than the other three, including a lot of theology, conversation, and actual prayers of Jesus to His Father in Heaven. The Gospel of John reveals a spiritual intimacy that is far beyond the other three Gospels.

We will approach the study of John's Gospel to get even more insight into John's personality and relationship to Jesus, so it will be a little different than the usual Bible Study.

They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
