Longtime televangelist and senior Pastor of New Destiny Christian Center in Apopka, Florida, Paula White offered her followers an Easter Sunday deliverance from a spiritual death sentence for a $1,144 "resurrection seed" she says was set by God.
Preaching the story of Lazarus who Jesus resurrected from the dead in John 11:38-44, White promised believers in a video appeal that if they would sow the seed and have faith, she believed deliverance would come.
"I don't know what is dead. I don't know what the enemy sent a death to. I don't know what decision that caused death to come upon whatever the situation you're facing, but I do know that God has sent me to you to bring resurrection life. To tell you that I believe that as we put our faith together before Easter Sunday on March 27, there's gonna be resurrection life in your life," said White.
"The grave clothes are coming off," she continued. "Whatever residue of death. Whatever residue is holding you back, it is coming off."
White then revealed to her audience that she didn't normally request a specific amount in monetary donations but said God was very specific about the amount required for the so-called resurrection seed.
"There's someone that God is speaking to, to click on that donation button by minimizing the screen. And when you do to sow $1,144. It's not often I ask very specifically but God has instructed me and I want you to hear. This isn't for everyone but this is for someone. When you sow that $1,144 based on John 11:44 I believe for resurrection life," said White.
For those who couldn't afford her specific request for the resurrection seed, White encouraged them to give smaller donations.
"You say, Paula, I just don't have that, then sow $144. I don't have that. Sow $44 but stand on John Chapter 11:44," she asserted.
White then promised that in return for sowing the resurrection seed, donors would receive special prayer cloths that could possible cause special miracles, signs and wonders.
"And when you do, there are prayer cloths that we have anointed that we have prayed over, that are going to be a point of contact. In Acts 19, the Bible says, Paul prayed over these prayer cloths and they brought forth special miracles, signs and wonders. There have been times that I have taken prayer cloths that have been anointed as a point of contact. I put them in my loved ones sneakers, I put them under their bed. I put them on parts of my body that I believe God for healing," said White.
"And it was the most dire, distressed, absolutely devastating circumstance. I would stand in faith that that miracle was gonna come forth and I would watch God do it. God has never failed. I can sit here and say this. There is not anything in my life that I've prayed according to the word of God and I've not seen God answer," she continued.
White was quick to note, however, that donors who sow a resurrection seed should not expect God to respond like a "sugar daddy."
"Cause there are things I've prayed out of ignorance or asked out of my own desire and I said God, but your will be done. 'Cause I knew, His word is His will. See His will is for whatever is dead in your life to come back to life. How do I know? John 10:10. Jesus came to give you life and give you life more abundantly," she said. "So click on and minimize that screen and right now sow your miracle resurrection seed as we stand in faith together and I believe God for your miracle."
If the Navigators preach the same thing as do the Catholics....what's the point in changing.....point out where they differ.
Oh, I get it.
You own personal interpretation of Catholicism.
I guess you can take or leave the Catechism then, if you so choose.
So why on earth is it an issue that non-Catholic church have doctrinal differences it it’s all up for grabs anyway?
It's been 'pointed' a zillion times on FR.
You Catholics have your Mary; your smells and bells, your Bingo, your superior attitude, your Our way or the Highway message, your...
I know that too, I am a Baptist, and do not follow such men as Francis, etc.
Christ is sufficient.
Being as I am my own pope, I can make my own judgement. There are saved people in different fellowships that are outside the OTC, so, why would anyone choose to be inside the OTC, if they can be saved outside of it? Being as I know I am saved (at the risk of committing the sin of presumption) I think I will remain outside the OTC. 😊
Oh so WRONG!!!
I know, but I am sooooo sincere about it. Don't you think if I am just sincere about my beliefs that I should be ok? Anyway, I am sincerely comfortable outside the OTC. I think I will be ok. 😃😊😇😆👍 Don't try to stop me from being sincere. I will do this. 🙈🙉
How about a good Limerick?
Deconstructing Linus: Portrait of a True Believing Pumpkinist as a Young Man
"Each year on Halloween night, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere and flies through the air with his pack of toys for all the good little children in the world."
No. This is about sincerity, a subjective standard by any definition.
I wonder if Linus blames himself every year for not picking the most sincere pumpkin patch for his vigil?
I wonder if other Great Pumpkinists castigate Linus by asserting if he were more in tune with the Spirit of the Great Pumpkin, if he were more prayerful, if he read the Holy Writ of the Great Pumpkin with a greater sincerity, that he could indeed rise to the challenge and, via the Spirit, be lead to choose the most sincere pumpkin patch?
I wonder how many years Linus will feel guilty for this failure and blame himself for receiving no answer no matter how sincere he believes himself to be?
I wonder if Linus ever gets frustrated because there is no objective way to measure sincerity? And if he realizes there is no objective standard for such a thing, I wonder if it ever creeps into his mind that his annual mission is nothing more than mindless busywork?
I wonder, does Linus ever have doubts?
For the time being, however, Linus will put aside his doubts and, perhaps as a means of proving his sincerity, begins to proselyte among his friends for converts. Most shrug him off. But Sally, who has a crush on him, believes Linus and agrees to spend Halloween in Linus' Pumpkin Patch.
Linus then explains that by using positive language and positive thinking, they may be able to attract the Great Pumpkin to their Patch. He also cautions Sally that negative language and negative thinking will cause the Great Pumpkin to pass them by.
There is no room for doubt when one is a Great Pumpkinist. One should never say if the Great Pumpkin comes but always when the Great Pumpkin comes. "One little slip like that, can cause the Great Pumpkin to pass you by!" It's hard to imagine a benevolent icon such as the Great Pumpkin punishing TBPs (True Believing Pumkinists) for such a minor infraction, but there you have it.
Sally: The Birth of an Ex-Pumpkinist
Because Sally loves her "sweet baboo" Linus, she sets aside her own Halloween plans of trick-or-treating and a Halloween party in order to spend the evening in the Pumpkin Patch. She converts to Great Pumpkinism because she loves Linus. She respects his opinion. And she wants to make him happy and be supportive. And besides, if it's really true, WOW! Wouldn't that be fantastic?
But in the end, the only Being that shows up in the Pumpkin Patch is Snoopy. Linus, believing Snoopy to be the Great Pumpkin, swoons into an ecstatic faint, happy in the knowledge that he has finally deciphered the Great Pumpkin's standard for sincerity. But, alas, it is a misplaced hope, and when Linus regains consciousness, there is not only no Great Pumpkin there to reward him, there is one upset little girl.
"I was robbed! I spent the whole night waiting for the Great Pumpkin when I could have been out for tricks or treats! Halloween is over and I missed it! You blockhead! You kept me up all night waiting for the Great Pumpkin and all that came was a beagle!"
"I didn't get a chance to go out for tricks or treats! And it was all your fault! I'll sue! What a fool I was. And I could have had candy apples and gum! And cookies and money and all sorts of things! But no, I had to listen to you! You blockhead. What a fool I was. Trick or treats come only once a year. And I missed it by sitting in a pumpkin patch with a blockhead. You owe me restitution!"
Luckily for Sally, she only missed one Halloween. And though she is demanding restitution, because her participation was voluntary, she will never receive said restitution. She'll simply have to accept the experience as one of life's absurdities and move on.
However, one can hope that this experience has made Sally a more skeptical person, so that the next time she is presented with such fantastic claims, sheâll perhaps be inclined to do her research before committing any time, money or emotion.
After all, fantastic claims should be supported by fantastic evidence, right?
The question now becomes, has this experience made Linus a skeptic? After yet again not having his Pumpkin Patch recognized as sincere and after having endangered his friendship with Sally, will he continue to believe?
In spite of a complete and utter lack of evidence pointing to the existence of the Great Pumpkin, and a complete and utter lack of the Great Pumpkin's Promise ever having been fulfilled, Linus is a True Believing Pumpkinist to the core. To even admit the possibility that he may be wrong would be to negate all those years of hard work and sincere belief. Linus simply cannot turn his back on his belief.
So if Linus doesn't become an ex-Pumpkinist, what is his strategy? Well, he's going to keep on trying, isn't he?
"What do you mean, 'stupid'? Just wait until next year. I'll find a pumpkin patch, and I'll sit in that pumpkin patch and it'll be a sincere pumpkin patch, and the Great Pumpkin will come! Just you wait and see! I'll sit in that pumpkin patch, and I'll see the Great Pumpkin. Just wait until next year!"
Gee, all I asked is where does your "denomination" differ from Catholicism.....and why.....and where did you get your new revelation???
Let's see....smells and bells...Incense has been used in religious ceremonies virtually forever....means nothing, just gets attention and smells great....bells merely draw attention to a more important event in the overall ceremony. Catholics aren't the only ones who have Mary, so do you....you just don't appreciate her as much as Catholics do...too bad.
Catholics do have the "my way or the highway" attitude because we are right....Christ Himself founded our church and we have no need for Protestants to attempt to change HIS church.
Christ Founded, and is the basis of the Catholic religion....We do not "follow" Francis...we are Catholics and he is the elected leader of our church. I do not "follow" Obama and he is the elected leader of our country....it is exactly the same thing.
Protestants have been doing that for about 400 years and it has NEVER worked....that's why there are THOUSANDS of denominations, all of which they think they are the correct one.
Mr.Smythe was so much wiser than Christ?????????????????
I disagree bro, but hey, what else is new? I usually avoid religions that adamantly claim to be the ONLY one. Besides, I think that is like committing the sin of presumption. I like to commit the sin of presumption, but only if reference to assurance of salvation.
Catholics aren't the only ones who have Mary, so do you....you just don't appreciate her as much as Catholics do...too bad.
I disagree bro. Big surprise there. I respect Mary. I just believe she was a sinner, saved by grace, who had a bunch of kids by her husband Joseph.
Protestants have been doing that for about 400 years and it has NEVER worked....
I disagree bro, imagine that. I am not a Protestant. Christians, as opposed to "religious people," have been their own popes for a whole lot longer than 400 years. There was always a remnant who don't have to try and bluff their way into Heaven. I will continue to fellowship with people who have assurance of salvation. I don't know if you have any assurance of salvation, and without trying to speak for the other addressees, I would venture to guess that they would agree with me. They read scripture for themselves, and don't rely on corrupt people to interpret for them.
No, that's not *all* you asked. It's more than you asked initially.
You're moving the goalposts.
I never claimed to get new revelation. Don't put words in my mouth or misrepresent my position.
WHY it differs from Catholicism is easy. Because it agrees with Scripture and doesn't hold to the non-Scriptural nonsense and fairy tales the Catholic church has constructed.
The EVIDENCE Rome has produced show that CHRIST did a miughty poor job 'founding' His church.
HE had to send an angel to tell John to write about those bad CATHOLIC churches in Asia.
Sorry; Baghdad_Bob_Wannbe; but your boastfulness is falling on deaf ears.
Sorry; BBW; but you DO follow your 'church', and Francis is LEADING your 'church'.
Therefore (says any Logic 101 graduate)...
Yup; the fine leadership of YOUR chosen religion drove them away.
(Sorry Ronald; but I have to do this...)
I didn't so much leave the Catholic Church of Rome; it left me.
Come on!
Don't you mean 30,000??
or is it 40,000?
Maybe 80,000!!!
