Much of the western Catholic Church is spiritually moribund at best, morally corrupt at worst. There are still many faithful but they attend Mass in spite of a dearth of Biblical teaching and moral leadership. I was just in NYC and visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It may as well be just another of the dozens of secular museums. Crowds of people gawking inside with no appreciation of the sanctity of the place. I expect that Jesus wouldn’t hesitate to run the money changers out of this modern day temple.
Then you definitely do not want to go into St. John the Divine (Episcopal) in Morningside Heights. I was there a few months ago, as I was in the area and had heard about its architecture. It was just plain SAD. A beautiful building, but they had removed all the pews in the nave to hang a 50' sculpted dragon from the roof as an art exhibit. The church might as well be used as a barn.

I got news for you: It’s like that in every great cathedral or church in the world. There are always tourists. It doesn’t bother me that Catholics gawk at the beauty of classic churches. It does bother me when they ONLY gawk and don’t pray.
