“It’s possible that Rome may betray us,” said Fr Dong, before he said Mass in the city of Shijiazhuang in Hebei province. “If this happens, I will resign. I won’t join a Church which is controlled by the Communist Party.

“We are suffering like Jesus on the cross. We fight for religious freedom and follow the Gospel – but we are not supported by either Rome or China.”

Please pray for these good, suffering Catholics in Red China. I hate to say it, but I think they are more Catholic than the current Pope.

no doubt Cardinal Bergoglio feels quite comfortable negotiating with the Chinese Communist Party.

The man clearly has grown up with, and swallowed the platitudes and cliches of collectivism hook, line, and sinker during his days in Argentina.

Much of the western Catholic Church is spiritually moribund at best, morally corrupt at worst. There are still many faithful but they attend Mass in spite of a dearth of Biblical teaching and moral leadership. I was just in NYC and visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It may as well be just another of the dozens of secular museums. Crowds of people gawking inside with no appreciation of the sanctity of the place. I expect that Jesus wouldn’t hesitate to run the money changers out of this modern day temple.

Then you definitely do not want to go into St. John the Divine (Episcopal) in Morningside Heights. I was there a few months ago, as I was in the area and had heard about its architecture. It was just plain SAD. A beautiful building, but they had removed all the pews in the nave to hang a 50' sculpted dragon from the roof as an art exhibit. The church might as well be used as a barn.

Amen! Leave the corrupt and spiritually bankrupt Roman Catholic Church like we did! (From an ex-Roman Catholic who is now a Bible Believing Christian)

The spirit of Bonhoeffer lives in China.

“Pope” Francis will advocate all day long for illegals and muslim “refugees” damaging this country, but not a peep about these brave folk standing in the face of oppression in China.

I love it when someone sitting on a trillion dollars complains about how other people aren’t “helping enough”.

They probably would say the same about you.

I got news for you: It’s like that in every great cathedral or church in the world. There are always tourists. It doesn’t bother me that Catholics gawk at the beauty of classic churches. It does bother me when they ONLY gawk and don’t pray.

I see your point, but it should be done in a much more respectful and unobtrusive way. There’s nobody interacting with the tourists to explain that they are entering a holy place of worship. I realize it’s a revenue source for some of the major cathedrals but money shouldn’t trump the sanctity of the Church.
