Animals Invade NY St. Patrick’s Easter Mass

NEW YORK (ChurchMilitant.com) - "Easter is a time for love! No more shedding animal blood!"

This was the battle cry of six animal rights activists who interrupted Easter Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York to protest the killing of animals. Brandishing signs featuring pictures of animals and the question "Will You Let Me Live?" the six militants took to the aisles, with one yelling into a megaphone that "only the devil" could create "animals capable of love and joy just so humans can make them suffer and die."

The incident occurred about 20 minutes into a Sunday morning Mass being officiated by the Rev. Damian O'Connell, and about 2 hours after Cdl. Timothy Dolan offered his own Mass in the cathedral. Many of the parishioners were reportedly "terrified," with several mistaking a camera strapped to an activist's chest to be a bomb. According to eyewitnesses, "people ran from the church in fright," and the "possibility of causing a panic and harm was very high."

It has since been revealed several of the protestors belong to animal rights organization called Collectively Free, which describes itself as "working towards total animal liberation through creative, non-violent actions, and pro-intersectional [sic]." Among them is 23-year-old Jacob Martin, a former student of the University of North Carolina and a professed Christian, who was arrested after being removed from the church.

Collectively Free's official Facebook page features video of the incident and posts declaring Martin was arrested for simply "speaking out against the violent Easter tradition of eating the bodies of animals," promising they will continue "to provoke a discussion about this, by any means necessary."

The activists also assert that Martin was "brutally tackled and restrained" by cathedral security, despite video evidence showing otherwise. They also note the protestor has not "been provided a vegan meal since his arrest."

"Ham is a big thing on Easter, so that's why we decided to bring those voices to the public," declares Raffaella Ciavatta, one of the activists. Ciavatta also played a role in organizing a protest held outside the grand opening of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in New York City last fall.

Following the incident, Fr. O'Connell recited a prayer for the protestors.

And this has what to do with Easter Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral?

Maybe they should have tried protesting at a mosque.

These people deserve lawsuits against them for disruption of a public worship event. They had no intent to participate, only disrupt, hijack and ruin an event for their own purposes. And further lawsuits for falsely accusing others of assault, and filing false police reports.

I would sue their pants off. Make them at least spend thousands in defense.

Was thinking the exact same thing. Most in there love animals. Muslims not so much.

The animals didn’t disrupt anything — the “animal-rights activists” did.

These protestors aren’t going to win over many people by violating Easter services.

The Lamb of God was slaughtered for the sins of the world.
Was he protesting against God Almighty? Yes— good luck with that moron protestor.

No more shedding animal blood!”

I rather thought that was one byproduct of Easter. Certainly Christians abandoned the practice of animal sacrifice.

There should have been a group called “Men of Saint Patrick’s” smashing the skulls of these vermin and beating them to within an inch of their worthless lives.

Why didn’t the parish at least guard the entrances & shut the doors?

I can’t tell the difference between a camera strapped to someone’s chest and a bomb. Especially in a high tension situation.

He gets one in the head from me.

It could be a camera bomb. Tied into the flash capacitor.

Or it could be a clock that looks like a bomb.

If they pulled this stunt twenty years ago, they would need protection from the parishioners.

Pope Francis probably would have ordered the parishoners to give the invaders a hug.

Why don’t they go and invade a Mosque. After all, they are the ones that cut off animals’ heads while alive so that their meat may be halal.

This goes all the way to the top of the Democrat Party and the DNC. All these wack job extremist groups are under the Democrat domain and they are getting plenty of money from the taxpayers. The Dems hide that money in huge block grants that then get dispersed to environmental groups, women’s, groups, civil rights groups etc. etc. They can hide lots of mischief under those broad and benign categories.

It is time to spread the word that this is all coming from the Democratic Party since many Catholics and other Americans are not aware of these connections and how radical the Democratic Party is today.
