VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Francis will preside over a consistory to approve the canonization of five men and women, including Blessed Teresa of Kolkata, the Vatican announced.
The March 15 consistory will also determine the approval of canonization of Argentine "gaucho priest," Blessed Jose Gabriel del Rosario Brochero and Blessed Jose Sanchez del Rio, a 14-year-old Mexican boy martyred for refusing to renounce his faith during the Cristero War of the 1920s, the Vatican said March 7.
The meeting of cardinals and promoters of the sainthood causes, also known as an "ordinary public consistory," formally ends the process of approving a new saint.
Although the canonization dates are often announced at the consistory, it is widely believed Blessed Teresa's canonization will take place Sept. 4. That date celebrates the Jubilee of Workers and Volunteers of Mercy and comes the day before the 19th anniversary of her death, Sept. 5, 1997.

I love Mother Teresa and I’m glad she’s going to be a saint, but I think they should probably wait until an entire generation will have passed to remove popularity of the day as an influence.
I’m sure our current pope will be canonized shortly after he dies.

And, in accordance, if insufficient funding is determined for each of the faithful, we won’t be able to verify that God is in agreement with that individual’s sainthood.
Therefore...y’all send in your money for Theresa so we can keep our church positions!

What about the story that she converted to atheism on her deathbed?

The customary rule used to be that a saintly person was eligible for the canonization process a minimum of 50 years after their death. Mother Teresa died in 1997. By historic standards, Pope Francis has put her on the "speed track" with this canonization.
For perspective, St. Joan of Arc died in 1431, canonized 1920. Just short of 500 years.

I am 64 years old, a lifelong Catholic, and I have never once been solicited for money on behalf of a canonization, or for any special whoop-ti-do for a saint. I've never heard of such a thing.
Are you a Catholic?

Wonder what Pope Francis’ miracles are going to be? Pope John Paul had his. Just wondering.

Well, that's what I thought. I guess you have to resurrect Tetzel's corpse over and over, in order to kick him into the grave again.
It's a serviceable straw man, I suppose, but after 500 years it's a lazy way to argue.

Some call Him Ishwar, some call Him Allah, some simply God, but we have to acknowledge that it is He who made us for greater things: to love and be loved. What matters is that we love. We cannot love without prayer, and so whatever religion we are, we must pray together. - Mother Teresa She makes a fine Vatican II "Saint".
