Catholics are praying TO Mary....that’s where the problem occurs.

Who was the first to express a problem with the practice?

It is my understanding that Christians have been asking for Mary’s intercession from the early days of Christianity, and nobody had a problem with it until sometime after the Reformation. Is there a record of Luther, Calvin, or Zwingli having a problem with it? Or was it someone who came along after them? Do you have any information on that?

You are correct, there are too many Catholics who get carried away on praying to Mary, including clergy and religious. But when you are talking about more than a billion people, there are bound to be a few million who go beyond Catholic teaching.

You seemed to give that impression a few posts back.

However, in the NT we do not have any example of people being told, or people praying to, departed believers.

. We do have numerous examples of being told to direct our prayers to God. The best known being the Lord's Prayer.

It is my understanding ...

Well; since you accept everything that flows downhill from Rome; of COURSE!
