VATICAN CITY (RNS) Pope Francis celebrated his 79th birthday on Thursday (Dec. 17) with a gift to the many devotees of Mother Teresa of Calcutta: The pontiff gave final clearance for âthe saint of the guttersâ to become an official saint.
Francis took the step by signing a decree declaring that the inexplicable 2008 recovery of a Brazilian man who suddenly woke from a coma caused by a viral brain infection was due to the intercession of the Albanian-born nun, who died in 1997.

I imagine it might be on September 4th, which is a Sunday and a day before the anniversary of her death (September 5th).
Additionally it may be a sufficient period of time to declare her an incorruptible (if she if found to be incorrupt).

When I was a kid I used to wonder where a ‘saint’ came from.
Now that I see the process, I am less than enthusiastic about the concept of praying to saints.
These are people. I thought prayer was only meant for God.

God does the miracle, but the saint is simply is doing what you would ask dear ones or friends to do, pray for you.

Sometimes God performs a miracle to honor saints.
Think of the Miracle at Cana.
Jesus clearly rebuked his mother saying it was not yet his time.
Yet Jesus performed the miracle.
Why?

She said that President Reagan had much to suffer.
She also scolded President Clinton (who thought it funny to be scolded by Mother Teresa).

Wow, she said what would be a prophecy about the illness that would in time end Mr. Reagan’s life.
Not surprised that Mr. Clinton treated her scolding as a joke.
