“Dangerous” Post on the Recent Terrorist Attacks
National Catholic Register ^ | 12/06/2015 | MSGR. CHARLES POPE

Posted on 12/07/2015 6:52:17 AM PST by Not gonna take it anymore

Consider this a dangerous post, and a post that will be easily misunderstood. For here I am about to make a point that explores a biblical theme and apply it to today. But in so doing, I am “holding other things equal”—a technique which examines a certain aspect of a problem and focuses on that one thing, while not denying that other factors and issues are also at work.

Simply put, part of the explanation is that God is permitting increased violence, and not restraining it, as a kind of chastisement on the increasingly secular West for our unbelief. This is a common biblical theme developed by the Prophets to explain to Israel why and how God had allowed the Syrians and Babylonians to wreak terrible suffering on Israel and Judah.

This prophetic tradition actually began in the Book of Moses. Consider this passage from Deuteronomy 32 in which God warns what will happen to an unbelieving nation:

You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you, and you forgot the God who gave you birth. “The Lord saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters. And he said, ‘I will hide my face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness. They have made me jealous with what is no god; they have provoked me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are no people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

Basically saying that radical Islam is God’s instrument, scourging us into returning to the true faith, Christianity.

The Old Testament is a good read on how Israel kept straying from God, losing His blessing, falling into dire circumstances til they’d repent and turn BACK to God - and He would deliver them and bless them again...

Until they took it for granted and turned back to their son and stupid ways, setting the same pattern of events.

The USA is going around this mountain for the first time. We are taking Gods blessing for granted and turning our back on Him.

We haven’t started seeing the hard part yet...

Birth control and abortion are a major cause of our problems. The Europeans and Americans are trying to replace the children they diddn’t have thirty years ago with third world replacements in such numbers that they no longer have to assimilate.

We have been ruled by (King) Saul for seven years; as with Israel and Saul, we chose Obama because we wanted a king and because of his looks. We will not have to deal with him for 20 years, as the Israelites had to with Saul.

Now comes the second choice: do we choose Jehu (Trump), David (Cruz), or Athaliah (Hillary)?

Well, I hate to break it to everybody .. but GOD gave ALL AUTHORITY OVER THE EARTH .. TA DA .. TO MANKIND ..!!!

So, to say GOD is ALLOWING anything is folly. Mankind is supposed to care for the earth and her humans who live here. GOD already did HIS part .. but like Adam, many do not have the courage to FIGHT .. but instead cop out by saying “GOD is ALLOWING this increased violence.

I wish people would stop blaming GOD when HE’s not responsible for the carnage. The carnage is happening because the people are not standing up against it.

The only way ANYTHING GETS RESTRAINED ON EARTH is when Mankind stands up and says NO!!!! Sadly, that is not happening as much as it should.

The only way MORE OF GOD GETS RELEASED UPON THE EARTH .. is for people to SUBMIT THEMSELVES TO GOD .. and stop blaming other people for their problems.

It’s too bad we can’t post the entire article. It is excellent.

Yes we have grown soft and decadent.

We must turn back to God as an entire nation.

Nature abhors a vacuum. By rejecting the presence of the true God in our country, Americans invited another belief system to invade. It’s even more evident in Europe.

Agreed

I posted what God led me to think and ponder yesterday at church

Daniel Webster refers to The Bible as;

A Rich Supply Of Thought

which I think is a remarkable statement in and of itself, for the scriptures first, and secondly preaching, DO speak to my heart, oftimes not on subject with what I'm reading or hearing

ALL scripture is given (in part) for instruction in righteousness, so that man CAN see cigarette smoking in the scriptures (my body is the temple and I am not to defile it)

A Rich Supply Of Thought

LOVE it !

“We have become, collectively, unmindful of God. We have pushed him to the peripheries. Secularism is rampant; church attendance is at an all-time low. And even for those who do believe, there is a widespread tendency among many to engage in a kind of false religion which features a designer god, a god of their own making and understanding, who just happens to agree with them on everything. The Scriptures call this idolatry. Those who worship the God who reveals himself in Scripture are fewer and fewer. So we are an unbelieving and increasingly unfaithful nation.”

The monsignor nails it perfectly!

“...there is a widespread tendency among many to engage in a kind of false religion which features a DESIGNER GOD, a god of THEIR OWN MAKING and understanding, who just happens to agree with them on everything.”

Reminds me of something else I read...

About half a century ago a Presbyterian pastor named Donald Barnhouse was asked on a national radio show, ‘What would it look like if the devil took control of a city?’ His response was the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you’d expect... but spot on. Keep in mind, Barnhouse pastored in Philadelphia:

‘If Satan took over Philadelphia, all of our bars would be closed, pornography banished, and pristine streets would be filled with tidy pedestrians who smiled at each other. There would be no swearing. The children would say, ‘Yes, sir’ and ‘No ma’am,’ and the churches would be full every Sunday... where Christ is not preached.’

A great chapter in the Book of John concerning the pursuit of righteousness is John 14. Everyone should read it in its entirety! Unfortunately most only focus on one verse (John 14:6 "...No one comes to the Father except through me."), which IMO, most everyone wrongly interprets - as it has far deeper meaning.

Back to where I'm going with this; we need to pay more attention to many of the less focused on scriptures in John 14, such as:

14:12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing...
14:15 If you love me, keep my commands.
14:21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.
14:23 Jesus replied, Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
