Monsignor Pope Ping for OSV article.
Which of the two guys is the pope?
It’s just awesome having a communist in charge of a church .
Church = body of Christ
If it is Christ body then Christ is the head
>>What usually happens is just what has happened among Protestants: divisions into new denominations or branches of denominations. They all claim the authority of the Bible and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit but cannot agree even on essentials, such has how one is saved, and if once saved, are they always saved?
Even if Protestants disagree, we all look to Jesus as the answer. If I am Calvinist and my friend is Arminian and we have significant differences on many theological issues, the article overlooks the fact that we both look to Christ and hear the counsel of the Holy Spirit. I do not think that Calvin saves me or condemns my friend. He does not think that Arminius or Wesley saves him or condemns me. So, our differences do not matter.
The Roman Catholic Church had splits before Luther. Some of them exist to this day in the Eastern Orthodox Churches. But most were crushed by the forces of the RC Church (or, more correctly, by secular armies of nations controlled by the Pope) so that their division would exist no more.
>>Protestants also have serious divisions regarding the moral issues of our time: abortion, same-sex unions, euthanasia, etc.
Yes we do. Its caused by people placing the things of this world above the things of the next. Sadly, Pope Francis is bringing those kinds of divisions to the RCC too.
Believers need a “pope” like a fish needs a bicycle.
You’ve got two popes wrong in one article! New record.
If Jesus appointed Peter as “pope”, why did we get must of our doctrine from Paul?
The Catholic Church certainly didn’t need THIS pope who is about as Catholic as the Castro brothers.
Christ is the head of the church and .....
Ephesians 4:4-12 There is one body and one Spiritjust as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your callone Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. Therefore it says, When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.
(In saying, He ascended, what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
No mention of a pope.
Hmmmmmmm..........
I thought FR was getting rid of these kind of threads?
They seem to be creeping back in.
You can see the importance of the Pope in so much of everyday life. So many in secular life can't wait for the next Papal pronouncement so they can agree or disagree with reason and focus.
I wish two things today.
First, I wish so many in disagreement would do so with less visible hatred for the institution. There are a billion or a billion and a half Catholics in the world. A vast number of these are good and decent people. Critics should stop hating them because they are Catholic.
Second, I want a Pope who understands the importance of his office. I want him to stand tall on important moral issues. I want him to not waste paper, ink and air talking about the earth as a rock in need of worship.
When catholics on this board aren’t in 100% agreement how can we take this seriously?
Is this a caucus thread or just one of the baiting threads?
