Explosive intervention by Pope Francis set to transform climate change debate
UK Guardian ^ | June 13, 2015 | John Vidal

The most anticipated papal letter for decades will be published in five languages on Thursday. It will call for an end to the ‘tyrannical’ exploitation of nature by mankind. Could it lead to a step-change in the battle against global warming?

Pope Francis will call for an ethical and economic revolution to prevent catastrophic climate change and growing inequality in a letter to the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics on Thursday.

In an unprecedented encyclical on the subject of the environment, the pontiff is expected to argue that humanity’s exploitation of the planet’s resources has crossed the Earth’s natural boundaries, and that the world faces ruin without a revolution in hearts and minds. The much-anticipated message, which will be sent to the world’s 5,000 Catholic bishops, will be published online in five languages on Thursday and is expected to be the most radical statement yet from the outspoken pontiff.

However, it is certain to anger sections of Republican opinion in America by endorsing the warnings of climate scientists and admonishing rich elites, say cardinals and scientists who have advised the Vatican....

A political Pope isn’t new. Pope John Paul II was influential in the fall of Communism in Europe. I don’t mind the Pope’s intervention in political matters where his intervention is for the betterment of his flock, but this Pope is perpetrating a fraud that will bring his flock to ruin. Better for him to tackle all the other major threats such as the persecution of Christians all over the world, including in the US.

> Up next...”Jesus was merely a metaphor”. Bank on it.

I have seen that one coming too. Expect some "archaeological" find taken out of context and misunderstood (conveniently) and the Left twisting it to say just that. BTW I was just reading 1 Timothy last night and it struck me that it really applies to what's happening in the world right now. I have never seen so much twisting of the meaning of The Word as I have the last 7 years: 1 Timothy 1:3-10 3As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer 4or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. 5The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. 7They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm. 8We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

Not a big fan of this Pope, but I do pray for him. Anyway, a few questions. Why are we trusting the liberal media’s version of what this encyclical is going to say before it even comes out? Secondly, it’s just an encyclical, it’s not a matter of dogma. To what I believe will be to their own ruin, (the Pelosi’s, Kennedy’s, other salad bar Catholics) a large percentage of Catholics don’t follow Church teaching, or even know WHAT the Church teaches, so why is anyone going to take notice of this encyclical?

Lastly, what’s with all you Catholics claiming to leave Jesus because of an encyclical delivered by the Pope? What kind of faith is that? None in my opinion. If you believe Jesus Christ is present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist, why would you abandon that?

Maybe this encyclical is a good thing, get more salad bar Catholics out the door.

Because it has not been released yet. Look at the first line of the story:
The most anticipated papal letter…
The entire story is written in the future tense. It may be bad, it may not be. Let us wait and see what it actually says.

A few weeks ago on FR when I called Francis a hardcore leftist I was roundly criticized by more than a handful of posters. I stand by what I said.

Actually, those are the moderates.

It’s human beings that the real environmentalists are after.

Or worse.

To push this after the known exposure of fraud is bowing to the devil.

Or worse.

America was predicated upon a population of “deeply moral and religious” people.

This South American “Commie Pope” is going to pose a unique challenge to the American Catholic, as his insistent meddling in what is unambiguously not a matter of faith, forces a “Martin Luther” moment upon them.

Do they accept such a egregious abuse of religious authority, or reject it?

I’m betting Lil Red Pope gets a surprise.

Yeah, that whole Martin Luther thing didn’t come out of nowhere and was not a plot by the German princes and electors.
