BUMP for reading this evening. THANKS
Nobody.
Protestants often try to interpret the reference to the rock in a way that shows why Peter could not be the rock in this passage. Personally, I am in agreement with evangelical scholar D. A. Carson when he writes, If it were not for Protestant reactions against extremes of Roman Catholic interpretation, it is doubtful whether many would have taken rock to be anything or anyone other than Peter
Personally, I think he's wrong here because of this.
Paul identifies who petra is, and that is Christ. If it weren't Christ, but rather Peter, this would have been the place to say so. *Don't forget guys, Peter is "petra".*
But he didn't.

1 Corinthians 10:1-4 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock (petra) that followed them, and the Rock (petra) was Christ.
Not you.
Everyone — and no one.
Psalm 19:1, from the largest to the smallest quantum unit, and beyond both.
>>” And they must serve with derived authority, living totally under the written Scripture and its final authority.”<<
The written Sacred scripture is not enough. We have seen what happens when the papacy is ignored by Protestants. Everyone becomes their own pope and interprets the same scriptures by their own partial understanding, leading to massive disputes and misunderstandings. Every human organization requires an accountable leader. in addition to scripture, we must learn the practices of the early Christian community (for the first 300+ years when there was no written bible), which the Catholic church calls the Sacred Tradition of Christ’s church. Others may look to Luther, Calvin, or King Henry, etc. for their proper understanding of the Sacred scriptures. But I look to Jesus Christ, the Apostles, and the church they created for my understanding. I pray that Jesus will help us all to become ONE as He desired.
We get it, you hate Catholics. You don’t have to keep posting it over and over..
What a lousy excuse for scholarship.
Papal infallibility wasn’t invented at Vatican I; it was delineated in a most highly restrictive way. As defined by Vatican I, the Pope is only infallible when he speaks from the throne of St. Peter, on behalf of the Church, for the establishment of doctrine. While Vatican I insisted the Pope does this on his own authority, in every instance when he has done this, the Pope has either confirmed the findings of an ecumenical council of bishops, or stated the presence of a consensus throughout the Church and throughout history of those who represent the Church.
It breaks me up that the author paints Vatican II as backpedalling, then cites Vatican II as its source for just how authoritative papal infallibility is.
But I mean, come on... some of the errors are just plain silly. Every time the New Testament lists all of the disciples, it not only lists Peter first, it also titles him “first,” even though he was not the first disciple called or the first to arrive at the resurrection. (The only reason he was first of the 12 to witness the resurrection was because John halted.) But for crying out loud, Matthew 4:18 DOES list Peter first, even though it’d make sense to list Andrew first. The closest you can get to the gospels or Acts listing any other order or the disciples is John 1:44? (”Phillip, like Andrew and Peter,...”)
Calvinist site? Hardly the truth.
Good work mom.
The one thing I can say about you is that you are persistent. I do love you, my separated brethren, and pray everyday especially for you. One day it will all make sense to you, but I guess it is not today.
God the Father speaks for God the Father as evidenced by Jesus teaching of Matthew 11:25, 16:17 and John 12:18 as examples.
And the Holy Spirit is sometimes (always?) Gods messenger as evidenced Matthew 16:17 and Luke 2:16 as examples.
Angels are also sometimes messengers as evidenced by Luke 1:19.
Us ordinary folks can be messengers too as evidenced by Matthew 10:19-20.
Regarding interpreting the Holy Bible, note that Luke 24:45 indicates that, regardless that Jesus disciples knew the OT Scriptures that Jesus still had to open the minds of his disciples to the Scriptures. Otherwise the message of the cross is perceived as nonsense to those who are perishing as evidenced by 1 Corinthians 1:8.
From 1 Corinthians 12
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.
God speaks, among other things, through the Body of Christ, each according to His Gifts
GOD is more than capable to speak on HIS own behalf.
The secret is: Who is listening .. and if they are listening, what are they hearing that they believe is from GOD ..????????
After all, GOD provided scribes to give us a written proof of who HE is and what HE wants us to believe.
So, the KEY again is: Who is listening and if so, what are they hearing that is accurate.
In the Old Testament God spoke through a bunch of people.
Ask the Duggars. To what cult do they belong again?
These “FOOLS”. NO ONE SPEAKS FOR GOD. ONLY GOD CAN SPEAK FOR GOD. Now that doesn’t mean we can’t can’t talk to GOD. And whatever GOD tells us what we should do, we should obey. But HE left it up to us to choose what we should do.
