Pray For Our American Heroes and Our Nation
Decoration (Memorial) Day first observed, May 30, 1868
Oh, that my head were a spring of water
and my eyes a fountain of tears!
I would weep day and night
for the slain of my people.
Jeremiah 9:1 (NIV)

As we remember Memorial Day this weekend,
let's not forget the deadliest war in American history
- the Civil War -
which ended 150 years ago.
Both sides, Union and Confederates, all Americans,
suffered great loses,
and we still feel its wounds to this day.
As a civilian, I can't fathom the depths
of which many of our veterans have suffered,
especially POWs - Prisoners of War.
This George Root (1820 - 1895) Civil War song of a Union prisoner,
Tramp! Tramp! Tramp! ,
gives a glimpse into the anguish
of a POW as well as
the soldiers hope of being released
by his comrades in arms.
Therefore
.
Continue to remember those in prison
as if you were together with them in prison,
and those who are mistreated
as if you yourselves were suffering.
Hebrews 13:3 (NIV)

Tramp, Tramp, Tramp, the Boys Are Marching
.
. (Note: The tune is known today for the childrens hymn,
Jesus Loves The Little Children )
Below are the lyrics, the hope of any POW
In the prison cell I sit,
Thinking Mother dear of you,
And our bright and happy home so far away,
And the tears they fill my eyes
Spite of all that I can do
Though I try to cheer my comrades
and be gay.
Chorus:
Tramp! tramp! tramp!
The boys are marching
Cheer up comrades,
They will come.
And beneath the starry flag
We shall breathe the air again
Of the free land in our own beloved home.
In the battle front we stood
When their fiercest charge they made,
And they swept us off a hundred men or more;
But before we reached their lines
They were beaten back, dismayed,
And we heard the cry of vict'ry o'er and o'er.
So within the prison cell
We are waiting for the day
That shall come to open wide the iron door;
And the hollow eye grows bright
And the poor heart almost gay
As we think of seeing home and friends once more.

Heavenly Father
As Memorial Day is observed this May 25th, may show gratitude and thankfulness for all who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice.
Likewise, may we remember how much some have suffered. Some were in prison, some wounded, some bear the scars of PTSD. War changes people as well as their loved ones. We pray for healing of mind, body, and spirit.
Protect our military and troops from the enemy on all fronts especially the enemy within. Give a special grace to all those who suffer and are persecuted for Your Names sake.
May we return to the faith of founders so that our nation may glorify Your Name. May America become a blessing in this world and the world to come.
In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen
-----------
Give thanks to the LORD,
for He is good;
His love endures forever.
Psalm 118:1 (NIV)
Keep praying for America

Wisdom Seekers
Every spring colleges and universities hold commencement ceremonies to celebrate the success of students who have completed their studies and earned their degrees. After the students cross the stage, these graduates will enter a world that will challenge them. Just having academic knowledge wont be good enough. The key to success in life will be in wisely applying everything they have learned.
Throughout Scripture, wisdom is celebrated as a treasure that is worth seeking. It is better than riches (Prov. 3:13-18). Its source is God, who alone is perfectly wise (Rom. 16:27). And it is found in the actions and attitude of Jesus, in whom all the treasures of wisdom are found (Col. 2:3). Wisdom comes from reading and applying the Scripture. We have an example of this in the way Jesus applied His knowledge when He was tempted (Luke 4:1-13). In other words, the truly wise person tries to see life from Gods point of view and chooses to live according to His wisdom.
Whats the payoff for this kind of life? Proverbs tells us that wisdom is like sweetness of honey on the tongue (Prov. 24:13-14). Blessed are those who find wisdom (3:13 niv). So seek wisdom, for it is more profitable than silver or gold!
Lord, strengthen my resolve to live by the wisdom that comes only from You. Give me the discernment to live all of life from Your point of view that I might know the blessings of a life lived wisely.
Blessing comes from seeking wisdom and living by it.

Amen, NEWwoman. You always give us something to ponder as we agree with you in prayer.
We pray today for those in authority. May they come to the knowledge that there is only one God and only ONE mediator between God and man--Jesus, the Christ.
