Contrary to Popular Outrage, Pope Francis Didn’t Call Mahmoud Abbas ‘an Angel of Peace’

Another day, another misquote.
I hate to get into a public disagreement with a colleague here, but the outrage du jour seems to be based on a translation that may or may not be deliberately wrong. As the BBC and the Associated Press are at the root of it, I’m leaning towards the former.
A BBC reporter in the room claimed that Pope Francis said “you are an angel of peace” while presenting a gift (which is Vatican tradition) to Abbas.
The Vatican reporter for the Italian newspaper La Stampa has it differently:
As is tradition with heads of State or of government, Francis presented presented a gift to the Palestinian leader, commenting: May the angel of peace destroy the evil spirit of war. I thought of you: may you be an angel of peace.
Calling someone something and exhorting him to be that something are two entirely different things.
What has befuddled me and several of my conservative friends who are also devout Roman Catholics is the willingness of our conservative friends to take news about this pope at face value from MSM outlets that aren’t trusted for anything else.
I can tell you this: MSM reporting on the Vatican, the Church or whomever is pope at the time almost always needs to be taken with a grain of salt. The media has an obsession with Francis because they’ve convinced themselves that he’s the pope who will make the Church become a gay marriage, abortion loving free-for-all. This, even though barely six months into his tenure, Francis excommunicated a priest for supporting women priests and gay marriage.
As with any political agenda supported by the MSM, it is willing to bend facts to shoehorn stories into the narrative.

May the angel of peace destroy the evil spirit of war. I thought of you: may you be an angel of peace. The people who operate at high levels in politics and who run the kinds events that get covered by the world media are not naive. They are practiced, polished and very professional. Everything they do is calculated and done for effect. When they use a term like "Angel of Peace" while standing next to a criminal like Abbas, they know exactly what they are doing. There is no reason to excuse their behavior.
Fawning over Islamists will come to a very bad end. Having to learn this lesson over and over is time consuming and dangerous.

No No and No. Palestinian statehood has nothing to do with any endorsement with Abbas’ behavior. Pope Francis would have supported it no matter who was the head of the PA (which Abbas only has a tenuous claim to anyway).

Palestinian statehood has nothing to do with any endorsement with Abbas behavior. It doesn't? Wow.

It does attempt to negate Gods Land of Promise to Abraham. It's in the Bible but maybe the Catholics have some sort of Palestinian "tradition" in a forged document from way back.

Actually it is. And the fact that instead of going to God’s word to discover what HE said about the last days and deceivers, you chose to go to the Catechism of the Catholic Church for your solace. But I expect no more. As searching might lead to repentance and repentance might lead to salvation through the finished work of Christ.

Pope Francis called on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to be an "angel of peace"...He presented Abbas with a medallion and explained that it represented the "angel of peace destroying the bad spirit of war."....Francis called both Abbas and Israeli President Shimon Peres 'men of peace'.
This entire setup is a Globalist setup....moving along nicely now and in full view of the audiance

Exchange of Gifts....looks like whatever that is in Abbas's hand is pretty skimpy for a gift to the Pope?

It's fascinating to watch. Prophecy being fulfilled in our time.

Yes it is. And as prophesied, most of the world is blind to it.

We're certainly getting front row seats Imo. It's also striking they are doing so in full view of the audience....which they would not be were it not for the fact they believe they can control the public and the perception, both here and abroad.

Oh I don’t think so....they just call it something else....which is intended in order for the masses to drink this.
Perception is very twisted today and people really have no concerns that it is. The reason is because everything is playing into a brainwashed society primed for deception.

It’s a spiritual blindness. If they actually knew what was going to happen, they’d run like wildfire.
Instead, they embrace it and encourage others to do so.

Yes...but willingly...I do think people recognize the world is shifting and there is of course confusion for some and others put there heads in the sand because it’s simply to scary to see the facts as they are.
Then, as you say , there are those who embrace and encourage others to do so.... that I believe is the majority.

It’s the majority. Many of those do not even know why they don’t understand. I know. I’ve spoken with them at length. A couple are friends. They absolutely do not “get it” and will not “get it” because their ears are closed to the truth.
They do not have “ears to hear”.

Sorry, but I haven't mentioned heresy. What people are condemning are his actions, e.g. siding with a terrorist organization (Hamas).
Please do say where he sided with a terrorist organization.
