The opening prayer in the Alabama Senate today included a reference to the same-sex marriage controversy swirling in Alabama.
Pastor David Gonnella of the Magnolia Springs Baptist Church in Theodore asked God to "Forgive us for allowing sexual perversions to be considered as normal."
Asked if he was referring to same-sex marriage, Gonnella said he was referring to any law that would treat as normal something that God considers an abomination.
Gonnella said he disagreed with a federal district judge's ruling earlier this year to overturn Alabama's ban on same-sex marriage.
Some probate judges issued licenses to same-sex couples for about three weeks, but the Alabama Supreme Court halted that.
Gonnella said he hoped to see the ban reinstated permanently and that he supported Chief Justice Roy Moore's stance on the issue.
"The people of Alabama voted that marriage should be between one man and one woman and that should be what is done," Gonnella said.
In 2006, 81 percent of voters who participated approved Alabama's "Sanctity of Marriage" amendment.
The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule on the same-sex marriage issue later this year.
Rep. Patricia Todd, Alabama's first openly gay legislator, was asked if same-sex marriage was an appropriate topic for a Senate prayer.
"He is entitled to his opinion," Todd said in an email. "I wish they would respect others."
Todd is the new Alabama director for the Human Rights Campaign. a Washington-based group that advocates for gay rights.
Does the press regularly pay attention in detail to the Senate prayer?
Or is this the usual hypersensitive though police gaydar?
though = > thought
I continually thank God we have patriots and God fearing men like Moore and Sessions.
Amen!! you know I’ve committed sins of the flesh but I don’t want it put on a cake!!! I wanted forgiveness from God. And no, it wasn’t with men. I don’t know if all sins of the flesh are equal but that one seems particularly evil
“you know Ive committed sins of the flesh but I dont want it put on a cake!!!”
Oh no. Let’s “celebrate” it. Put it on a cake, get some flowers, and take pictures. And encourage others to do the same. </s>
lol.
No matter what the sin, the wages are death, but certain sins in particular cry out to heaven. The sin in question that has received so much celebration of late is one of them.
Well, that one is being pushed as righteous, so there’s a problem with that one in particular.
I’m guessing the Gaystapo will be departing Indianapolis for Birmingham today.
Take solace in this tidbit.
I called Memories pizzeria and bought a pizza to be sent to fire dept. She said they are running out of food every few days because they are so busy!!!
How can anal destruction, spreading a brutal disease that even with treatment people are now getting dementia in their 40s, and having a fetish that if 100 percent of men had would lead to the end of humanity in one generation be anything but righteous.
/sarcasm
Sarcasm appreciated.
FR is often a lot more cannibalistic than it was when I was signed up.
yeah boy! Not a good way to get new recruits lol. I LOVE the board and I hate that I cant tell my real opinion sometimes because it may be too moderate and I might get kicked off. And I consider myself hardcore conservative! But I learn so much regarding science, religion and other areas on this board and that is why I love it so much.
